August 2014 Moms

I know there are a lot of threads on STTN, but I have a question about best "alert" hours

I know my schedule is weird, but if in a dream world, I wanted my DD to sleep ultimately from 9-9 (and once DH goes back to work in two weeks), I'll want to bed in bed by 12 ---when I would like her to go to bed until I can have my dream world (DH can feed her from 5-6 if necessary), but he has to hand her off to me at 6 when he leaves for work, so I would love to have her sleep as long as possible after that--even if he has to feed her). Bla bla bla, not anyone's problem but mine, I know. Here is my very belated question:

What would be the ideal waking hours for a six week old?

Would it best to have her awake right before I want her to go to bed or what? I know she will be awake during the day some other times and more each day as we approach this dream schedule, so I just don't know.

  • @navyandgray covered it but I wanted to add that anything goes at 6 weeks old.  I know it's frustrating and the lack of predictable schedule is also something I'm not a fan of but it's extremely difficult to force newborns to do what you want them to do.  They aren't older children in baby sized bodies.  Their brains just simply aren't mature enough to get on a schedule and there are biological reasons why sleeping 9-9 just isn't going to happen for 99.9% of babies.  Forcing a baby to be awake when it wants to be asleep is a recipe for disaster.

  • @flip_flops‌ I can't even get my 19 month old on a schedule that I want. Regardless of when we put her to bed she's up by 6:30. :((
My first was an early waker until close to age 2 when he finally started sleeping until 7-8am.  He woke up between 4-5am for most of his first year and nothing I did would fix it.  It just changed all of a sudden!  Hopefully she starts to change it up for you soon!

  • Thanks, ladies. She will go to day care but since I'm part time, getting her up at 9 would work.

Good thoughts! I'll just do my best and hope for the best!
