Holy Hunger (mama, not baby ;)

I seriously forgot how ravenous I am the first weeks/months breastfeeding and I think adding a toddler (tandeming) really kicked it up another notch. I just inhaled a 3 egg, ham omlett and am hurriedly trying to finish my bowl of cereal before baby wakes up.

Any other hungry mamas? And what are your go to meals/snacks right now?

Re: Holy Hunger (mama, not baby ;)

  • The other day we went to Waffle House for breakfast and I ate a whole chocolate chip waffle with whipped cream, two eggs, two strips of bacon, and an entire side of hash browns. I felt guilty after, but it was delicious.

  • Ha! I wrote a very similar post a few weeks ago. I was eating all day! Thankfully my appetite started to curb around week 3.
  • I think I ate 5 full meals yesterday and was still hungry when I went to bed. I'm eating second breakfast right now. Then I'll make lunch in about an hour.

  • I'm eating more than my power-lifting husband.... It's almost embarrassing. I've had 4 packets of instant oatmeal today already. And a donut. And I'm still starving.
  • I'm just loving being able to:

    1. fit an actual meal into my stomach
    2. eat sweets (I did not crave while pregnant)

Can I just say that breastfeeding is the best "diet" ever? Because it is.

  • Just ate two handfuls of straight-up bittersweet chocolate chips. Thanks to you mamas, moving onto popcorn with savory herbs next... Maybe some rosemary and Parmesan? Mmm.

  • I try to load up on protein. It helps keep me fuller for a longer period of time.

  • Gah my appetite has really amped up in the past week it's ridiculous. I'm trying to stay healthy but it's tough when I just want to be able to grab a quick snack.

  • Ditto. Im normally a vegetarian but that flew out the window. I dont think I can rule anything out, especially protein rich meats. EATALLTHETHINGS!!!
  • I've always been a big eater and tend to out-eat my husband, but I out-ate a group of firefighters at the Pizza Hut lunch buffet on Monday. I was pretty proud.

Anyone else LOSE their appetite? I'm EBF and I can seriously go all day and then realize I haven't eaten a damn thing. I've lost my sense of hunger AND my sense of a full bladder is just returning.

I am not eating like crazy bc o have no time to! But in hungry! And im losing 0 weight w bf. So upset! I havent lost a pound in 2 weeks and im 4 wks pp!

For some women bf'ing will cause their body to hang on to a few extra pounds. It's the body's natural way to make sure you could continue to produce milk even if you didn't have a ton of calories. But! It could also just be a non bf'ing related plateau.

Obviously since I started this thread, I don't have personal experience, haha, but I have some friends who have experienced this. It's like they get so busy with baby they forget to eat. They actually end up underweight and have to be intentional about eating to maintain their health and milk supply.

Idk if that's exactly what you're talking about but maybe set a few reminders on your phone to "eat" even if it's just a quick, protein filled snack (string cheese, piece of chicken, hard boiled egg, protein bar) you gotta eat, mama! :)

It's not even that we are busy. He will be sleeping and I'll read or do whatever, and then hours later I'm like "it's 5! I haven't eaten anything! And then I'll eat, but can't eat a lot because I just feel full". But I should set reminders for sure!
