Pregnant after a Loss

Cramping Question

Good morning, ladies,

I am so happy to be progressing right along with this pregnancy and I am so excited to meet this little girl!  I'm 35 weeks now, and for the last couple days I have been experiencing menstrual-like cramping.  It's persistent and not timeable when I feel it, so I'm not really worried that it's PTL.  It's also worse when I'm standing.  Have any of you experienced this?  I was going to call my dr's office this morning, but I know that they're just going to tell me that it's a normal late pregnancy symptom, and I trust you ladies who have been through it first hand  :)  Thanks for reading!

Re: Cramping Question

  • I had that with DS for the last 6-8 weeks. Mine were not painful, but more uncomfortable. They would increase after standing for a while or after walking for a while. I really can't compare them to actual contractions though because I had back labor with DS and never really felt the actual contractions. They pain from the back labor overshadowed any pain that I would have felt from the contractions.

It never hurts to just let your doctor know what's going on though.

  • Oh yes.  I just had my 36 week appointment this morning and was commenting on this exact thing.  My NP essentially said that I'll be feeling the lower, crampy stuff more often now that the baby is a bit lower.  It's apparently all part of your body gearing up for real labor.  I suppose it also helps get the ball rolling since I went from high, long, and super tight to being 50% effaced and just under 1cm dilated in the last 3 weeks.  I do agree that it's probably worth mentioning to your dr, but you're right that they will most likely just say it's normal in late pregnancy.

A lot of the time it's simply the pressure of the baby weighing down, especially when you are standing.  Keep drinking water and if you are sitting try to change positions often.  But definitely mention it to your Dr.

Are you wearing a maternity belt? I never wore one, but I know a lot of people who absolutely loved it.

    *All are Welcome*

  • Thank you!  I did some reading online this morning (not usually a big Dr. Google fan), and it seems to be pretty common.  I haven't had a cervical check, but she feels lower and when she jabs/punches they are pretty low and painful.  It's hard not to worry about every little thing, especially given my history.  I have an u/s scheduled this afternoon, so I will definitely mention it to my doctor.  As always, you ladies are the best    :)

  • I did ask my dr today, and he said it's perfectly normal and could be a sign that my body is preparing for labor. I figured as much, but the confirmation is nice!

  • I started with period like cramps when I was around 33 weeks with my first. My nurse just said it was the body gearing up. For me, it was happening mostly at night when I was laying down.
  • Sounds like braxton hicks to me. Try to stay really hydrated and it makes them a bit better.
