Sleepsack or blanket this fall?

What''s everyone doing for sleepwear and blanketing this fall?

LO has been in sleep sacks pretty much forever. I was about to order a bigger fleece one, but I'm starting to question if I should just do pj's and a blanket this winter. They also have a sleep sack with feet... but then I have to put socks on him I think so that sounds like a hassle.

What's your plan and why?

We put him in a shirt/pants right now. We will add socks to the uniform if he seems cold, but he is ways hot and probably won't need anything more. Our house is pretty much at 70 year round
Pretty much this. When he is getting his bath we'll run a space heater in there to keep the room warm and turn it off once we settle him for bed. He should be fine in just fleece, footed jammies. If it gets to be less than 65 in his room I'd be surprised. We also upgraded our windows last year and that does keep the house warmer in the winter.

  • Footed jammies and a blanket most likely. She's walking and loves to be free so I don't think she will tolerate the sleep sacks this season. We've used them and loved them in the past but sadly I think they are history!
Can't figure out the signature thing, so here's the short, short version.....first daughter born on November 10, 2013. She was conceived through the magic of IVF after 2+ years of TTC.
  • We have kept G in cotton footed PJs all year. Last winter he was being swaddled in the halo sleep sacks. It never occurred to me to try the non swaddle kind this year, so I might give them a try as the weather gets cooler!

  • Another footie pajamas and blanket mama over here. Like @MotherEFFingKatie‌ I would classify it more as a security blanket as it is light and she plays with the satin edging to fall asleep. She moves around a lot and tends to leave it but some nights she stays cuddled.

I worry more about her bunny lovey honestly, her new thing is to sleep chest down and use bunny as a pillow. I usually go in and pry it away when I see this on the monitor but she has an iron grip, not so easy.
  • I am in the middle of trying to figure this out. We keep the house around 70 year round but her room gets down to 65 in the winter since it's the coldest in the house. DH doesn't want a space heater going in her room. She has never had a blanket in her crib so now that it's starting to get colder I've been doing a 2 piece pj set and her summer (muslin) sleep sacks over those. If I haven't done laundry in awhile and she's out of sleep sacks I just do the pjs. She's close to growing out of her sleep sacks so I'm wondering if I could get away with the pj's and adding a onsie under it and socks. She has GIANT legs so she won't fit into most fleece zips ups. I'm trying to avoid buying more sleep sacks but that might be the way to go.
  • So glad you posted this discussion, was thinking the same thing last night since i'm a northern too and last night was chilly! It got down to like 62  here, not cool new england, not cool!

Anyways, B is a big mover especially when first falling asleep so I am going to try using our one large A&A sleep sack but i'm thinking it will not work out well. I plan to allow blankets this winter and might wait until she falls asleep to place them on her.

I recently purchased a few fleece footed pj's (like @MotherEffingKatie) which should work out well, and then i'll use the blanket as well on super cold nights or when she's in the few shirt/pant pj's she also has (likely with socks)

I agree with @BrittAnnie19, the Carter's ones fit well- even with my chunky baby's legs!

I'm a little nervous about the blanket but she does sleep with one at daycare.
I'm also concerned that if she moves around the blanket will fall off, or get left in the opposite side of the crib and then she'll wake up because she's cold...but we'll see.

I was just thinking this a couple days ago; B is about to grow out of his sleep sack and wondering if I should buy a new one. The only reason I would is because he likes to feel comfy, he was swaddled for a really long time, maybe I'll try without a sleep sack and see how many times he wakes up, cant be anymore than he is now...can it??
This is my mindset! He woke up 5-6 times last night. I lost count.

Um, he is a mover. He can stand up and shuffle around in the crib in it. He seems to get frustrated when it gets tight. I feel like it gets more tangled when it's tight than when it's really loose.

I will try all the things and whatever makes him sleep wins!

  • @BrittAnnie19 - Thanks for the tip! I'll try Carters and see if they fit.

Talk to me about sleepsacks. I never use them but we have a few in larger sizes. I'm wondering if he could wear those in addition to his feetie pjs that he normally wears. I am seeing a bunch of you do, but I feel like he would get twisted up as he tends to toss and turn during the night. No?

I like the sleep sack BECAUSE he tosses and turns so much . A blanket has no shot of staying on with him. He literally flips upside down in his sleep and the sack just moves with him. He sleeps like his mama...I need an adult sleep sack!
  • We live in Maine and the temps have already dropped at night. We've had a few frosts already. We put Maddie in long sleeve/pant pjs with socks, and she has an afghan blanket, her great great grammy made her, that we cover up with. She's still in our room so the three of us keep it pretty toasty in there. We live in a brick house with a woodstove, so its usually quite warm in the house in the winter.

  • Fleece footie pjs and a blanket. All the sleep sacks I had were for 0-9 months and it seems silly to put a walking baby in a sleep sack.
