June 2014 Moms

**Born To Run Junebugs**

This is a weekly thread for runners who were due June 2014, that is posted on Mondays. All who run--or who want to start running--are welcome, regardless of mileage, pace, ability, size, shape, or terrestrial status. We had this thread during pregnancy, now it's time to lose that baby weight.

how were your runs and workouts this week?

Runs were great this week! It was the first week of feeling really strong and feeling like my endurance was almost all back. Gym workouts were really good too!

My gait is weird now, but I think that is because I have been running with the stroller. No pains at all. My biggest change is that I feel I get dehydrated really easily and have to drink so much water.

    The BOB!

Just did my first postpartum run today!  Doing the couch to 5K because my booty has been housebound since LOs arrival.  Ran for a full 2o minutes and it felt fantastic.  Will be running 3-4 times this week.

The big difference between before and now is that I am actually more motivated.  I appreciate my body and what it is capable of so much more. I also want to model a healthy lifestyle for my little guy.

About six months ago my husband got these gift certificates to a corporate rewards program (he earned these for "years of service").  We finally logged onto the rewards website and one of the gifts was a BOB Revolution.  So we got our brand new BOB for free...score!  It is amazing and this weekend we used it on the beach at a friend’s wedding.  Very cool!  We have the car seat adaptor and will probably start using it on runs next month.

  • I'm back to running! Did a 5K yesterday and have another one to do today. I'm training for a 10K on 10/12.

    No real changes for me

Double BOB is where it's at!
  • Ran for the first time since my first trimester! I only ran a mile and my pace was almost three minutes slower than normal, but it felt good just to get out there and do it! I really wish I would have tried to keep up my routine when I was pregnant though.

My biggest obstacle is not having any time without my LO to actually go run. I looked into getting the BOB stroller that everyone loves, but I read that you have to wait until they are 8 months to use it on a run. Those of you who have been running with it, is it with your older kids or with your June baby?

Non-existent :-/ I broke my pinky toe the day before my 6 week postpartum checkup so I had to let that heal. I've tried to run several times over the past few weeks but the toe is still hurting! Went to the podiatrist last Friday because I'm frustrated and have also developed some major pain in the pad of my foot, under the knuckle of my toe right beside the big toe. Got an X-ray and the pinky toe still isn't completely healed and BAM- arthritis in the second toe joint. Not. Cool. Got a steroid injection in the joint and it was really sore over the weekend but I tried to take a little jog yesterday and between my pinky toe and the arthritic joint, I only made it up the street before turning around. I am really hoping for healing and relief soon so I can get my run on!

BOB Revolution all the way. It's like a Cadillac! We take it everywhere. Used the car seat adapter at first (Chicco) but now baby boy fits in the stroller as long as the straps are pulled the tightest they'll go. He's a hoss cat, though. FYI for anyone looking for a new BOB, we got ours online at Kohls. We did it during a baby sale, so we got 15% for that promo off the bat, plus stacked a $10 reward and a 30% off coupon, free shipping, AND got Kohls Cash. There were other models besides the Revolution on their, too, as well as the adapters for the carseats.
  • Walking mostly but running 30 seconds for every 10 min of walking. I am taking it really slow so I don't overdo it but walk/running 2 miles a day.

Weird pains....my pubic bone doesn't hurt while I exercise but it wakes me up in pain at night. Anyone else having this pubic bone pain still? I asked DH about it but unless I make an appt he doesn't really listen to my issues, I am thinking about making an appt with my ob/gyn.

We have the graco jogging stroller and I love it.

It does say to wait, but we have the carseat adapter and while it isn't recommended to run because it is top heavy, I do. I only run on a very smooth paved bike trail with no cars and no turns. It is a lot less bumpy than driving in a car so I think she is very safe in there. She seems to love it! I see tons of people running with babies in the carseat...but I think it is a personal call. My husband wasn't ok with it at first but then saw how she barely jostles at all in there and now loves running with her too.
  • I have yet to go for a run unfortunately. I am trying to get walks in at night, but it's only happening maybe twice a week, but it's better than nothing. LO is only 10 weeks so I can't put him in the jogger yet anyways. I have to get my butt out on the weekends when DH is home to watch him, that's the only way as he doesn't get home until 10pm and the idea of getting up before 6am to run does not appeal to me:)

I think I pulled or strained my calf. Probably from not stretching properly!

I want the Summit X3 by Baby Jogger, I like that it has a hand brake on the handle bar. My sister says I should get a bob though. This is my first baby so I haven't gotten a jogger yet, figured why get it if he can't sit in it yet.

I go with both kids. I have a smooth trail I run on so I don't worry about head issues.
  • My runs: Getting better- I ran 3 times I think? Still doing c25k, but I'm on week 8 I think.

No major changes, but it's nice not having hip pain I had when running pregnant.

I don't have a jogging stroller but I'm frequently checking Craigslist!!!
  • Runs: I got out twice over the weekend. I'm aiming for 3 times a week at this point. Ran for 25 min then 20 and I am very happy with that!

Changes: Gait seems the same; I just feel grossly out of shape!

Stroller: question here; I thought I read somewhere that you shouldn't use a running stroller until a baby was 5-6 months old. I haven't done research lately and it seems like a lot of people are now with young ones. Is my info outdated?? Is there something specific you can do or use to run with a small one? Would love to be able to run with LO bc I would get in a lot more running since i wouldnt have to wait for DH to be home! Thanks for any input!
  • As an ex-property and casualty insurance underwriter, this is my take on the age limit for jogging strollers:

There is a TON of liability potential when you manufacture any sort of children's product. For my part, I would always decline this kind of risk. Even the best warnings can't stop you from having massive claims and lawsuits. You will find that most if not all of these manufacturers err on the side of caution in their warnings. That said, if my BOB did not recline to nearly flat and I didn't have a flat surface path to run on, I would not be taking DS out at this time.
  • Thanks! @nunzchucks‌. Love the pic!
  • My runs: doing C25k, on week 6 and constantly amazed at what I can do! I have never been a runner before and honestly can't remember ever running even a mile. My pace is slower than the 10min/mile c25k expects but I don't really mind since I'm still "learning"

Differences: no pains but the biggest difference is that I did try to do c25k right before I found out I was pregnant, and found it difficult, this time things seem to be going much smoother and I'm way more motivated!

Stroller: I have a single stroller strides bob, and a double bob revolution. I haven't ran with either since I would prefer to wait the 8 months. The stroller strides bob does not recline very far at all, and I'm not sure I'm ready to jog pushing both kids. I am looking forward to spring when we can go on family runs and dh can push the kiddos

Thanks for your input! I'll have to do some more research before buying one, but will definitely consider this!
