Teething?

DD is 5 months tomorrow and I think she is cutting a tooth. She is screaming as if in pain. Trying to put everything in her mouth. Gnawing on everything she can. I feel bad for her. DH wants to take her to the er but I think that would be silly if she is just teething.

Re: Teething?

  • Are her gums swollen? Have you tried giving Tylenol or a cool teether? Did this just start suddenly in the middle of the night tonight?

  • Yes we gave Tylenol. Yes to the teether. The screaming started a few hours ago. The drool has been increasing the last few days. So has the gnawing. She sucks on your finger and then moves her head to rub your finger over her gums.
  • Got a mesh teether you can put ice in? Frozen teethers? How long ago did you give the last dose of Tylenol?
  • 3 hours. I finally got her to nurse. And she feel asleep. Not sure how long it will last. I just bought one if the mesh ones yesterday. :)
  • Frozen peaches work very well too
  • If she is still truly miserable today you. can take her to the Ped to rule out any medical issues causing her to act like this but IMO it sounds like she is teething and the tooth is close to popping through. That was when my DD was feeling her worst. She all liked it when I rubbed her pacifier over her gums.

  • Sounds like teething to me. Neither of my kids show swollen gums or pearly nubs -- they have the same symptoms you're describing and then, all of a sudden, TOOTH. DS just got his first Monday and had been a total bear all last week.

  • I bought teething tablets as I heard they work well- haven't had to use them yet but might work?
  • I think mine is teething too but he has been drooling and gnawing on things since around 2 months so hard to tell. But he was really cranky yesterday and I gave home some teething tabs and he calmed down. Maybe try those?
  • DS is also chewing on everything and drooling. He's working on tooth number two.

  • I will try the teething tabs. Trying to avoid the er/dr. We just moved states and don't have her medicaid set up here yet. They might take her existing insurance at the er but I don't know.
  • We have hylands teething gel.

Good call in avoiding the ER. All of the behavior you've described sounds like normal teething to me.
  • Update.
She has been a happy baby so far today with lots of drooling. We shall see what happens tonight.
  • Sounds like teething. LO just cut her first tooth yesterday and I feel like an idiot bc she was fussy all wkd but I had no clue. She is always drooly and putting things in her mouth so it was hard to tell

  • I just noticed the first tooth coming in on DD! (bottom). She has been very drooly for about 2 months and chewing on everything. Hasn't really been out of the ordinary fussy though. I was playing with her yesterday and thought I saw a little white and long and behold it is a tooth cutting through! I was so excited I woke DH and then called my parents lol
