STM (+) with toddlers- stroller question!

What are everyone's' plans for a stroller with a baby and toddler in tow?

We have a bike trailer that converts to double stroller I figure we can use in the summer during things like camping when a double stroller is handy. We don't use the stroller much with my toddler anymore but I can't seem to figure out if we would get use of a double like this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005VM63X0/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=. I really don't want to be pushing around a double stroller with just 1 kid in it, but also don't want to be wishing I had it when I don't... I wore my son a lot when he was a baby so I'm thinking I will do the same for this one, so I am almost thinking I could probably get away without the double.

So basically I was just wondering what people in similar situations are planning, or if anyone is thinking this far ahead yet - I'm probably just getting ahead of myself! :)

  • We have a baby jogger city select that converts to a double! Expensive but beyond worth it!

  • I am going through this same decision right now too. I plan on baby wearing, but I am not sure how much. I didn't have good carriers until DD was older. I really like having the stroller for walks, the mall, ect. DD will be 3.5 when this one is born but she still likes to be held alot. I am interested I what others have to say.

  • We are buying a sit and stand stroller. We checked one out and my DD loves it. She is excited that she can stand on it and watch the baby.

My DD will be almost 3 when #2 arrives and I'm still debating. I think we'll eventually give in and get a sit and stand for those just in case moments. I think I'd be more comfortable when I'm out alone with both if I had a double. Like others said going to check out Craig's list et in hopes of snagging a good deal!

  • We're getting the sit & stand. My daughter isn't a toddler and will be 5 when this baby comes. But she also has muscle weakness and can't walk long distances without fatiguing. I plan on wearing the baby as much as possible, but our bitter winters here make me think keeping baby bundled in the car seat instead of a carrier will be our best bet.
  • My lo will also be 21 months when #2 arives. We have the chicco travel state but debating between 3. The bob double jogger, the chicco double (the one that holds the carrier) and Contours Options Tandem. I would the the bob stroller but worry it won't fit in my trunk of my car incase we are out and about.
  • We never use the stroller now. My daughter always just walks if we go for a walk so the baby will get the stroller and she will walk beside!

Do you know if the sit & stands come with a car seat adapter?

The sit & stands that we have looked at have the option to put an infant seat in either the front or back position. This was a major perk for us. I do think there are different models of the sit and stand that don't always offer that though.

This is the one we've looked at: https://mobile.walmart.com/ip/34426601?wmlspartner=wlpa&adid=22222222228023706031&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=m&wl3=40331764232&wl4=&wl5=pla&wl6=78292273832&veh=sem
  • Baby jogger city select all the way. If you aren't done having babies it's a good investment.
  • DD will be almost 4 when #2 is born, and I'm not going to get a double. She'll be old enough that I don't think we would get much use out of it. I will say though, for those whose bigger kids will be 3 or younger, that if I had had #2 this summer, when #1 was 3, I probably would have gotten one of those sit and stand deals. #1 wouldn't have been ready to walk all the time this summer.
  • I haven't yet decided 100%. I'd like to get a double stroller...but I plan on baby wearing a lot and my DS sitting in the stroller. So we'll see how it goes with that, and then we'd maybe invest if I think it's really worth the money, down the road.

  • I've used our stoller maybe five times during DS's life. I wore him until he got too heavy and by that point he was walking and wouldn't put up with the stroller anymore. So I can't imagine we'll use it anymore with two. So we won't be getting anything new. Just use the stroller we have when we need it.

  • I feel like I need a double but I am not sure yet. I do plan to do SOME babywearing and I did a little with A. But, there are definitely times when my stroller has been needed, I am alone a lot with H's work schedule. With two, I can imagine baby wearing at first, but then will need a double I suspect... as #2 becomes more mobile.

That's kind of how I'm feeling but I guess my problem is if I think I'm going to spend the money anyway id rather have it from the start to get the most use for my money... But i feel like even when my son was small and we would take the stroller, I would always end up baby wearing and pushing an empty stroller and I would hate to have that happen with a larger double! Haha

I have this also. My 5 year old and 2.5 (will be 3 when baby arrives)- can alternate sitting, and the baby will obv sit too. That stroller is HEAVY with 70+ lbs of kid in it.
  • Mine are all right around 2.5 years apart -- so we've had a 2.5 year old/newborn, a 5 year old/2.5 year old/newborn, and soon a 7.5 year old/5 year old/2.5 year old/newborn.

We've never had a double stroller and don't plan to get one this time around. Heck, we've only used our single stroller on a handful of occasions. I hate having to push around a stroller when I've got bigger kids to chase around as well. Babywearing is so much easier.

Mommy to DD1 (June 2007), DS (January 2010), DD2 (July 2012), and The Next One (EDD 3/31/2015)

  • I love wearing my baby but I need the stroller to carry the diaper bag. When I only had 1 it wasn't a big deal but with 2 and soon to be 3 the bag is just to full and heavy to carry.

  • I am planning to get a double stroller a few months after lo is born and baby wear up until that point.
  • DD will be 4 when this one comes.  I can't remember the last time she was in a stroller.  When we go on walks she is usually riding her bicycle or if she gets tired of walking she gets on our shoulders.  Next time we go to Disneyland we may rent one but she'll be a month away from 5 when that happens.

  • We rarely used our stroller so we sold it. We babywear and my daughter (she'll be 3 in Jan) likes to walk most of the time now anyway, so we don't plan on bothering with a stroller again.
  • Planning for more babies in advance, we got the Britax B-Ready stroller that easily converts to a double. I used the stroller for years as a nanny, and I knew I loved it. But just wanted to check on reviews when I was pregnant with DS. All the reviews were great, but all the moms were saying they wish they knew about this stroller when they had their first. Living in NYC, the stroller is like our car. I also baby wear a lot, so I will definitely be wearing LO and chasing DS around. Or i'll just use the Maclaren for DS and wear LO when I don't want to use the double.

  • I definitely want a double! My daughter will be 2.5 when baby is born. We'll probably keep our single stroller as well since baby will be too small for the stroller at first anyway. Hoping to get a sling so I can carry baby that way and just push our daughter in the stroller.

@bmarble11 - Can you post a link of the Chicco double that holds the carrier?

In general, I'm definitely going to get a 2 seater. In still trying to figure out which one though. DD will be 23 months when this baby comes and she is fast already now. I'm not trying to chase her anywhere while wearing my newborn. Plus I LOVE the ease of the click connect stroller where I can clip in the infant car seat and not have to deal with taking LO out of the car seat.

I baby wear a lot as well (I LOVE my ring sling!) but also walk about 3 miles daily. I'm getting a BOB duallie stroller (for all of those hours walking!) and also keeping my Chicco Cortina stroller for appointments when I have both children in tow (baby wear one and let the other sit in the stroller).   Mine will be 21 months apart.  I am one of those weird ladies that gets lots of use out of both my ring sling AND my stroller.  Wearing my baby around town and in the stores- YES!  Walking three miles with two dogs and a baby in a sling... NO way! :)
This is exactly me. My parents actually just bought the BOB duallie flex since it was under $500 on Amazon recently (no idea what we are going to do with it for 6 months but oh well). But i walked several miles everyday while on maternity leave last time and run with DS on the weekends. If DS is home with me for this maternity leave I need to be able to walk with both. The parks are about 1 mile from my house so too far for him to walk. I plan to wear the baby for shopping and regular out and about (since the BOB is kinda wide). If thia plan doesn't work I'll pick up a used sit and stand.

  • In my opinion sounds like you should my daughther regress after my son was born she never wanted to be in the stroller before he was born and after he was born she would cry to be in the stroller.
