Rash

It looks like my DS has a little rash on his chest. He doesn't have a fever and is happy as can be. Any ideas? Is it worth an after hours dr visit? (I didn't think so but my mom was supposed to babysit so DH and I could have our first date and she v backed our cuz she thought it could be contagious so now I'm feeling like I should worry).

Re: Rash

  • Are you using baby detergent? Or an all and clear? Looks more like skin irritation from contact with something.

  • Looks like what my LO has. We went to the doctor yesterday and she said it was just a reaction to something in her environment. I had started using baby oil a few days prior so we are pretty sure thats what caused it.
  • That looks like heat rash to me.

  • Yeah DS gets this too, it's more noticeable when he gets hot but then the redness goes away once he cools off

  • Skin stuff can be diet related too. If you're breastfeeding, you may try taking dairy out of your diet.
  • I thought heat rash too but wanted to see what you guys came up with. We use all free and clear, but my husband sometimes has itching on his chest from detergent (we can't find one that doesn't make him itch!) and LO takes after him so, who knows. I think I'll mention it cuz I'm calling the dr tomorrow as a follow up for last week's appointment about hid crazy amounts of spit up. New formula and no change. Ugh. I'm also going to ask about a small mark he has next to his belly button, a weird dry part on his butt crack and the fact that he is having formed poops that make him cry sometimes. Yes, I'm THAT mom...I feel like Rachael on Friends calling Dr. Weiner! Ive already had him in for his belly button, for not gaining weight, for choking/too much spit up and for his belly button (silver nitrate) in addition to regular check ups. I think part of it is that a dr checking him helps my PPA a little My poor little guy...

    Thanks for your thoughts ladies!
  • DS has something that looks similar and our pedi said it's normal and as long as he doesn't have a fever it should be just fine. Just his skin reacting to the environment
  • I said diet already, but the spitting up / choking sounds to me like maybe he's reacting to something in the formula, and the rash may be a product of that as well.
  • So they wanted to see him (of course, since i had a million issues) and were switching him to another formula again. She thought between the rash and spit up and poops that he could have some sort of trouble digesting so we're trying a kind that already has the protein partially broken down. It'll be great if this does the trick!

    Thanks for the advice, everyone!
  • My ped said it was related to heat/dry skin, so I've been giving it a daily wipe with a warm washcloth followed up by Mustela lotion. In one day it's clearing up beautifully!
