Trying to Get Pregnant

Prednisone and TTC

My allergist put me on prednisone today - 2/day for 3 days. Before I saw the Rx (so I didn't know how short of a time I'd be on it) I asked her about becoming pregnant on it and she said to wait.

If this cycle is like my last couple, I *should* O sometime next Tues/Wed/Thurs. And I don't want to skip TTC for a cycle!! But of course if there are risks, I wouldn't think twice about skipping.

Of course I'm going to call my ob/gyn when they open in the AM, but anyone have experience with prednisone while TTC? I read it can cause issues, but it seems like that is with long term use. I'm not sure if 3 days really counts, but dont' want to risk a THING.

Thanks!

Re: Prednisone and TTC

  • If your doctor said to wait, then wait. ?I think that stuff can stay in your system for a while.
  • Loading the player...
  • I was on it once, they told me the side effects could last for a year, I was on it for 12 days though. The side effects were like lower immune system and things like that.
  • This is news to me! I'm on prednisone now for arthritis and I was told it left your system fairly quickly.

I'm seeing my other Dr. tomorrow I will have to make sure I ask him.

  • I got this off druginfonet:

A short course of prednisone will have no permanent or lasting side effects. It would not impair your ability to either get pregnant or remain pregnant. Women who need prednisone during pregnancy usually have no problems with their offspring-- except the pediatrician needs to observe them to ensure their adrenal glands develop appropriately.

    **update**

Now I've read more on the drug on that site and I am freaking the fvck out. It's terrible, I want off immediately! It's got some serious side effects. Ugh.

I'll be interested to see what your doc says tomorrow.
