STMs have you used narcotic/IV pain meds for labor pain and will you this time? Did you get the epi too or was it enough to get through it?

FTM but any narcotic pain med makes me extremely nauseated. If I have a vaginal delivery I won't take any but I will get the epi. If I have to have a c-section I am aware that I will be in more pain post op and might need them. I am open to it but will make sure my OB is aware and will order me some anti nausea meds.

Wow I only used motrin 800 for post cs recovery. Butny body doesn't respond to narcotics other than making me tired. They don't touch pain. @CNJ4EVA‌ oxycodone seems excessive but everyone responds differently to pain.

I would be a bit wary of the constipation that can come with opioids. Not really a time you want to be straining or impacted.

I got the Stadol injection when I was in labor right before transition, and it was my first experience with a narcotic. Never. Again. I honestly don't think it did anything for the pain, and I was super dizzy until it wore off. It felt like the room was spinning. Luckily it only lasted about 45 minutes. I didn't have an epi.

I wanted to go med-free last time, but labor stalled and they gave me some pitocin and I wound up accepting a dose of nubain. I honestly really liked it, it just took the edge off and let me rest between contractions. I've talked to my doctor about it, and I am planning on attempting med-free again, with the plan to better manage the pain by getting up and walking around rather than lying on the bed, but if it came down to it I might take the narcotics again.

They gave me some when I labored with my first. I had no clue, I'm sure I agreed to it but didn't know until later

With this baby I took stadol when they stopped labor at 28 weeks and it made me loopy lou but it was in my IV

This. In fact, where I work we don't give them past 8cm due the chance of baby being sedated after delivery.

Oxycodone is pretty standard for post cs medication, at least in talking to people I know.

Really? My strongest option after being taken off morphine at the end of surgery was vicodin. Guess my hospital/docs are just conservative with pain meds.

I did the epi the first time and was offered pain medicine too but didn't take it. I plan on an epi this time as well.

I did...dilauded I think it was. During early labor I was literally throwing up from the pain so I got two shots actually - the first one was HEAVEN but they warned me that subsequent doses would be less effective...and they were right. Pointless after the first dose. I got my epi not long after.

This was me too... I got relief for about 15 minutes but then it didn't really help. Since I labored for another 12 hours, it didn't really help me! Just going with an epidural this time.

I did with my first - I was induced and did not have an epi. I went med free with my second - labor started on its own and was way less intense than with my first (by the time I felt like it was bad enough to go to the hospital, I was fully dilated when we arrived, and DD was born within about 30 mins). I definitely preferred #2 to #1. We'll see how this one goes - I am definitely not going to get an epi though since I managed without it the first 2 times.

This was me as well, except it was Nubain. It worked for about 45 minutes, took the edge off and let me sleep. After it wore off, the nurse gave me a second dose that did nothing and then told me they would be starting Pitocen... Epi, please. It all ended with an emergency c/s and I received Oxycodone. However, I do recommend asking for a stool softener if you don't get one while taking that. They gave me one to take with my pain killers, but I know that isn't always standard.

No narcotics was pretty much the only thing I was adamant about. Like PP mentioned it passes to the baby. They try to time it so it will wear off before baby is born but I don't want my baby to enter this world feeling the effects of narcotics. I ended up with an epidural last time and will get one this time if I can't handle the pain.

Percocet seems to be the standard post CS pain management option where I'm at...

I've had nothing stronger than Motrin 800 mg. I'm apprehensive to see what narcs will do to me.

I had an epidural during my labor and unplanned c-section and then NSAIDs and oxycodone afterwards, which is standard here. I had very little pain and recovered really quickly from my CS. 9 months of being martyr was enough for me.

I had a shot of Demerol. Like 6 hours before I had her. They wouldn't give me the epi till I was dilated to a 6.
