Accident WWJ13D

So the sitter got in an accident with both boys today. Everyone is fine her car is barely damaged. Ds1 has a small line where the seatbelt got him. I feel awful. I feel like I should do something for her but just don't have the money right now.

What would you do J13?

Re: Accident WWJ13D

  • I think as long as everyone is ok there isn't much you should do? I'm glad everyone was ok!

  • She's not claiming on her insurance it was not enough to be worth it. Would my insurance pay for replacements???

I feel like *any* crash is overkill. I'm sure car seats get bumped around a lot more on their journey from a factory in China to your home than they do in an accident where no damage at all was done to the car, where the car seat was tightly fastened to a steady object (the seat).

  • Thanks for discussion ladies. I have a lot look into including trying to find some income for seats!

There's a whole lot of information out there that proves this to be very wrong. The force a car creates is nothing compared to what a person does in a warehouse while the seat is safely inside the box created to protect it. The problem is the car seat was tightly fastened to the car during the crash. Meaning all of the force in the crash, even minor ones, was distributed from the belt through out the seat. This puts stress on the seat. So yes. It's possible a car seat is fine to use even if the company says replace after any accident. However, it's also very possible the company has done testing to prove the car seat will crumble in the event of a second accident because of the stress from the first. Personally, I wouldn't risk it. Although none of this is relevant unless the car seats here do specify replace after any accident.
This is a very good point @mrsgiantpenis. Thanks for typing it.. I didn't know that.
  • I'm so sorry that happened and relieved to hear everyone is ok.

I'm a nervous nelly and worry wart- I'd replace the seats.

  • @beckyanddon - how is all of this going for you? Hope all is well.
  • Yikes! Glad everyone is ok. I would also replace the seats. If the sitter is at fault she should pay for some of the replacement.
