XP: EPers- what pump do you use?

I currently have a Tommee Tippee double electric, and while I actually like it quite a lot, it's really not practical hands free. I'm starting EPing, and this need something that's high quality, fast, and easy.

If it helps, my problem with the tommee tippee is that the horns come detached too easily, so I will be mid-pump and move too much and the the pieces will just fall apart. It's is also rather noisy. I don't care in the day time, but I'm worried that it's a little loud for MOTN pumping while I'm still living with my parents. Otherwise, I'm totally happy with the suction, comfort level, etc. I'm kind of bummed that I have to even look for another option, because I was so pleased with it for what I paid.

So what pumps are you EPers using and what are your pros/cons?

TIA!

Re: XP: EPers- what pump do you use?

  • I'm not an exclusive plumper, but did pump for 9 months while working full time. I was very happy with my medela PISA. Are you making sure all of the parts are put together tightly and completely dry beforehand? Mine would also come apart if I didn't do those two things. As far as noise, I don't know if any that are completely quiet, but have heard a folded receiving blanket underneath can help dampen the sound.

Good luck to you with the EPing. There are many reasons a mom will choose to pump over nursing directly, but if there is anything the board might be able to help address, please feel free to reach out!

Thank you! As far as put together completely, yes. I will try to pay more attention to the pieces being completely dry and see if that helps, because I hadn't thought of that. But I have seen a lot of reviewers saying the same things so it may just be the way the pump is built.

I think am going to order a PISA, but I'll see if that addresses the issue in the meantime.

Good luck! That has to be frustrating, because if their expensive bottles are any indication, the pump probably wasn't cheap!

Actually I got a great deal on it, which is why I was super happy with it for what I paid. I think I spent $139 on it.

  • If you're going to exclusively pump, I highly recommend renting a hospital grade pump. It is worth every penny. I have EP'ed for my daughter since the beginning. The first four months I used a Hygeia Enjoye. It was okay, but I think I started to wear it out. I rented a Symphony and it's been a lifesaver. It gets more milk in less time. Now I'm EP for both twins and there is no way I could do it without the Symphony.
