3rd Trimester

CVS VS AMNIO

I am having twins and there is a possibility that 1 may have something wrong. I am doing my best to be positive and believe both of my babies will be healthy! I go for the blood work this week and would like to have all the knowledge about both cvs and Amnio just incase. Which test is more invasive and what were your results? I understand there is a risk with both tests but I am not one that can handle the unknown. I need to understand both of my options!

This is my 2nd pregnancy in my first trimester and I didn't have to go through any of this with my first born.

Re: CVS VS AMNIO

  • This must be very stressful for you.  I agree with PP about talking to your doctor, but there's no way I could stop myself from searching the internet for information.  I remember that the book Expecting Better had a detailed description of the two procedures and their risks/benefits... but the only think I remember is that CVS is available during 1st tri while amnio is done during second tri.... but don't quote me on that...

  • 1) If I recall correctly, it is an either/or situation based on how far along you are. I believe CVS can only be done in the first trimester/ early 2nd and Amnio is usually done later?!? I am not 100 percent positive, but I think it is a timing thing

    2) Is there a way you can do the Matern21, panorama, or one of those tests first? they are non-invasive and much safer than the amnio and CVS

    3) If not, I have heard CVS is riskier than the amnio in general
