Convertable car seats

What do you plan to move to when your LO is out of their infant seat?

I'm realizing that my chicco only goes to 22 pounds and LO is already 13, so I should probably start figuring this out to look for some good sales between now and then.

For STM's in multiple car families, do you have one in each vehicle? Or move the seat when you need to switch between yours and DH's vehicles? The price tag on having two tells me this could get expensive.

  • we have one in each vehicle and use the britax marathon.  We moved DD1 out when she was 9 months old and hit the weight limit.  We obviously still kept her rear facing with the convertible car seat.

  • We have the Safety 1st complete air 65 seat for both cars. It worked because we bought the first one, really liked it, and used a 20% coupon to purchase the second seat fir DH's car. It's definitely worth it to have a car seat in each car, since DH would help with daycare pick ups. We switched DS1 to convertible at 5 months old, he did not like the infant seat, and we kept him rear facing until after he turned 1.

  • My DS is almost 14lbs and on the long side, I actually just switched his car seat this morning he seems to like it a lot better :)

  • We only have one seat and switch it between vehicles. That being said, DH has a company vehicle and I stay home with the kids so we don't have the need to have a seat in each vehicle for daycare purposes and such. We have the safety first complete air 65 like pp, but we have had issues with the straps almost since the beginning so I do not recommend that seat.

  • We have just the one for DD1 and switch it between cars since it's easy to do and there are 5 potential cars that use it so multiple seats would be expensive and take up way too much space. It's by Evenflo, I think.
  • We have one in each vehicle. We have the Dion Radian in mine, and a Britax marathon in DH's. We'll have one in each car for DS too.

  • We have a Britax Marathon in each vehicle. I like the Britax seats because they're very user-friendly and easy to install. Most likely I'll put LO in the convertible seat before he outgrows the infant seat just because once they can sit up in shopping carts and stuff, I don't really want to lug around the carrier anymore.

We're likely going to buy new seats for DS1 and let the baby use our Britax since DS1 will be converting to a booster in a year or two. I was looking at the Diono Radians because they're slim. @BPer, what model Radian do you have and how is it to install? If anyone else has one, feel free to chime in what you like/dislike about it.
  • What issues with the straps have you had @INmommy871278‌ ?

Pretty much all of this.  We were lucky and my cousin gave us her carseat to use in DH's pickup when her son outgrew it.  Our main carseat is a Britax and the one my cousin gave us is a Safety 1st I believe

  • I'm leaning towards the Nextfit, just have to measure the cars to make sure it will fit! Right now diapers.com has them for 25% off, so I'm debating buying them now or waiting to see if they go on sale later. If the nextfit won't work then I think I would go for one of the Britax seats but there are so many to choose from!

I may have to look into the Radian now, too. Infant seats were so much easier for me!

  • DD doesn't like the bucket seat much. Since she is tiny (so could be in the bucket for quite a long time), my plan is to get a convertible for my car when she is sitting up on her own. Then we can use the bucket in DH'a car until she outgrows it. That way, we don't have to shell out the money for two at the same time.

The straps don't adjust easily, a lot of the time the little pull cord doesn't want to move. Also the buckle sticks making it difficult to unfasten DS and get him out.

@MSUDucks‌ - We sadly don't have a BBB anywhere in my city. Maybe I'll check this out if we go visit my parents since they have one where they live.

  • Ds1 is in a Recaro ProRide and has been since he got too tall for his bucket seat at 5 months old. The seat was bloody expensive so we only have one and switch between cars if necessary. It is easy to install, so that hasn't been an issue. Ds2 will be in his bucket for another 2 months at least, then we need to get another convertible seat. We'll likely go with another Recaro because of the side impact protection, but I'm considering the Radians too.

  • Like Lori, we will use a Britax Marathon 90%+ of the time in our main vehicle and have a Cosco (Scenara maybe?) for our second car. I tend to have heavy, long babies. Older DS outgrew the Keyfit 30 around 6 months and I expect this guy will do about the same, possibly sooner since he truly despises the bucket seat and we already have the convertible,

@LeaLupins‌ Sorry for just getting back here. We have the RXT. Super slim, and super easy to install with the latch system.

  • As soon as DD can sit up and her head be 'attached' I will put her in her convertible seat.

We have this seat for DD and DS has the same one in black.

We like them. Plus, I haven't seen a bad review yet.
