Random - Vent

So I work(ed) for a small community bank since March. They did some 'restructuring' of staff in June & moved me to another branch to replace a teller that was moving in December. Well she decided not to move so they told me I would be let go at the end of September since my position was no longer needed.
A week later they brought in a new part timer (never offered me the part time position).
Then, I get to work this morning & the manager brings me in her office & says I had a customer complaint Friday that was unacceptable & they're starting my lay off today...
I NEVER had a customer walk away from me upset! They wouldn't tell me what the complaint was! I understand they can't tell me who but you can tell me what. I call bullshit!!!
If you don't want me anymore just tell me, don't lie about me! I am so angry right now!!

Feel free to vent with me or just give me your randoms today!!!

    That's really crappy @amber0529!  Did you get a formal write up?  Seems awfully fishy to me.

    That does seem fishy. But since they let you go can you file unemployment? I know it's not much but something.

    @deedee1017‌ No write ups. @sleepy33‌ I can't file for unemployment because I've only been there 6 months & FL says you have to be there four fiscal quarters or something like that. Plus, they're giving me a severance package so I think that voids unemployment, idk.

    @SeeJayEmm‌ I'm starting online school so I'm looking for a part time job mainly for benefits right now.

    No way. If they try to deny you unemployment and say you were fired for cause, you need to fight them!

    it probably varies state to state, but i was laid off before, with a severance package, and i was still paid unemployment. i was offered X weeks paid, and i asked unemployment office if they would start paying me after so many weeks, and they said no, that the severance didn't affect it at all, so i actually got bonus money for a teensy bit.

    That sucks about no UI. I am pretty sure here you have to have worked a full year before you qualify as well. Still, I'd insist that they tell you if you are being fired for cause, and if so, tell them you need a detailed written statement outlining exactly what happened.

    I just went to a career source place & she said I only have to have 18 months of straight employment not just with that employer! But, I have to wait for my severance to run out so I can't apply until October. I still have a chance!

    Something very similar happened to me in June. I got my severance in a lump sum so I could apply for UI immediately. I might reach out to your UI provider directly to see what they say. Btw, severance is negotiable, so if you're not happy don't sign the agreement until you get what you want. At least this is all based on my experience in CA. Good luck. Really sucks when companies do this.

    @wedding06‌ They were going to lay me off as of the end of September because my position is no longer available but she said since I got a customer complaint (supposedly) it just wasn't working out so they're starting my lay off today.

    that's shitty :( you'll be able to find something, I'm sure. Esp with banking experience!
