Matthew Michael was born on August 29th at 11:22pm after a scheduled induction due to a crohns flare that required steroid medication to get it under control. My MW wasn't comfortable with me (nor was my backup OB) taking this medication while pregnant so they suggested that we induce so I could start the medication after delivery. The induction went pretty much as planned, though I had a stubborn cervix that wasn't changing even after 2 rounds of cytotech and hours of pitocin. I was exhausted after 18 hours of contractions with no end in sight so I caved and asked for the epi.
30 minutes after the epi was placed I dilated from a fingertip to a 4, then just 30 minutes later I was complete. I pushed for an hour, and Matt crowned for 45 minutes, leaving him with a nice bruise on his little noggin. I had wanted him immediately on my chest, but I could tell my MW was a little panicked when she told my H to "hurry and cut the cord here" and then told me they had to get him breathing so they took him to get cleaned off.
It took 15 awful minutes for my little guy to cry, my MW believes because he was on the large side (for me, I have a very small frame - he was 7 lbs 10 ounces 20 1/2" long) and his chest was over compressed during delivery so it was hard for him to take that first breath.
The nurses had to bag him and used too much pressure, causing a small hole to rupture in each lung. They took him out of my room (without me getting to hold him) and put him on cpap. They then called a bigger (and much better I might add) hospital in the city 3 hours away to set up life flight. The Dr on the phone yelled at the on call pedi to get him off cpap NOW! As the forced air was just pushing the oxygen through the holes and into his chest cavity.
The same stupid on call pedi then wanted to place a chest tube for relieve the pressure but the life flight paramedics said no, to let University of Utah Nicu drs evaluate him first. Boy am I glad they said that, because our hospital would have screwed something else up as these holes were small and able to heal on their own and the tube would have been for nothing!
I had to demand a nurse get a wheelchair so I could go see my son before transport, at which time she said she couldn't move me with the epidural and I basically screamed that my husband is twice my size and can pick me the F up to put me in a wheelchair!
Matt was life flighted at 3:30 AM and I was discharged at 8:30 AM and we were on our way to Utah, where we stayed a full week to run antibiotics and make sure his lungs healed. He came home on a bit of oxygen but is doing really well!
If you made it this far, here's some pictures! Sorry they are sideways

the first two are from right after be was born, the second two are us on the day we left the Nicu at one week old!
