Talking with Mouth Closed?

Hi everyone! I'm obviously new here and was hoping for some help with my 11 month old son. He can say "daddy" but does so with his mouth closed. He's been doing this for about a month despite my best efforts to teach him otherwise.

Anyway, I've googled this to high hell and wondering if it's just a "thing" he will likely grow out of. I'll ask my ped about it next month at his one year checkup but open to any insight you guys can provide.

Thanks in advance! I appreciate it!

Re: Talking with Mouth Closed?

  • My son does the same thing with all "D" words except Dada. I have no idea why. I'm going to talk to the pedi tomorrow at his 2 yr check up. He's started using different words to get what he wants so that he doesn't have to make the "d" sound since we'd always correct him. Hopefully it's nothing to be concerned about.

  • @yaassgaga Go figure as I am talking with the nurse and ask DS to say down so she can hear it he says it clearly. Seriously kiddo! I still spoke with the pedi about it and he said he wouldn't be concerned about the speech impediment. As he is still learning and expressing himself. He says to just keep correcting him when he says it wrong. I wouldn't worry at this point and just keep correcting him and try to get him to say other words that start with 'd'. If there are still issues at your next pedi bring it up then.
