Anxiety...

First, thank you for so many wonderful replies to my MANY posts and questions.  I am SO anxious.  How do you deal with it?  I'm always afraid something is wrong...DH keeps telling me to relax, but that makes me even more stressed.

Re: Anxiety...

  • nah, just some u/s and I scheduled them due to being marked as high risk...so these are the last two weeks of appointments before monthly checks.

  • I honestly just took it one day at a time. It was hard in the first tri. I never really got excited because I was so worried about losing one of them, but having frequent monitoring appointments (my OB does it for IVF patients) in the first trimester helped. Afterward, going to monthly appointments was a little harder.

I tried to set little milestones for myself to get excited about...

    - Making it to the second trimester
    - Making it to viability week (24 weeks)
    - Making it to 28 weeks / Third trimester

My next goal is to make it to 36 weeks.

Celebrating the little milestones gave me the confidence to face the next ones.

  • I won't say that I have anxiety but I take it one week at a time.

This is what I did. I also had a fetal doppler that we used at home maybe once a week. They gave me a lot of peace of mind.

  • I have anxiety as well. With a history of infertiity, loss etc... the bad stuff is always in the back of my brain.  I have to CHOOSE every day to stay positive.  Don't google, don't read sad posts or blogs etc... you have to protect your mind.  It is hard.   I agree with previously poster that setting small goals and just focusing on that is helpful.  I just hit my 20 week goal now I move on to my 24 week goal.  Keeping my mind busy also helps...if I sit around with too much time to think I start to worry!

    hang in there!

Yes! Keep busy! If I think too much I start feeling anxious. I'm a worrier. I like the small milestone idea. I chose to skip the 1st trimester screening test because I didn't need the doc to make a comment about something that would inevitably haunt me my entire pregnancy. It's difficult to stay positive at all times but hang in there! We are all in this together.
  • I am extremely anxious as well! We found out it was twins on Thursday and we are 7 weeks along. Our next appointment is not until October 21st and I'm DYING.

The doctor said we are in great shape and the heart beats are strong so I am just relying on that.  Every time I start to get anxious I try to remember that they did blood work and have no worries, so I shouldn't either.

My dr also said my body was built for carrying twins...which.....was awkward. Thanks?

I love the milestones idea, I am making a list today.

@Tredgirl - when did you start using the Doppler? How well did it work with twins? I am interested, but also wonder if it will just make me more anxious if I use it wrong and don't hear anything.

  • I started using it around weeks 8-10 or so I think. I didn't use it all the time. Typically once a week or the night before an appointment. For some reason if something had gone wrong I wanted to know prior to the apt.

We typically could always find both heartbeats. We kind of always had a general idea of where they were and how to pinpoint the hb's. BUT I told myself if we couldn't find one fore some reason I wouldn't freak out.

If you think it will make you more nervous and ill at ease I wouldn't suggest using one.
