Is your 3 yr old LOSING weight?

DS is 3, and is now about 29 lbs, down from about 32 lbs about 4 months ago at his 3 yr visit. I expected him to slow down on weight gain, but not lose. He hasn't been sick, lately, either.  He's a good eater (picky like any toddler, but he eats at every meal), and he's growing tall and losing his baby fat, so I'm not too worried. He doesn't have a Dr. appointment scheduled in the near future, but wondering if this is something that should be addressed. What do you think? Any experiences? TIA

  • DD has not lost weight, but only gained 3 lbs in a year.

  • My girls were 29 lbs and 31 1/2 lbs at their three-year checkup in Oct.  We went to the ped yesterday, and the smaller one is 31 lbs and the larger just 32.

I think it sounds pretty normal.

  • He hasn't lost, but he hasn't really gained either (he was 3 in August) - and honestly, he doesn't need to.  He's gotten taller and looks like he's slimmed out.  Also, his shoe size hasn't changed since at least August - I just had him sized.  I would say they're slowing down...
  • Mine isn't losing weight, but since his 2 year apt (7 months ago) he hasn't gained an ounce, literally, and has grown about 4 inches taller, so I guess I look at that almost as having lost, since he's grown so much in height, that re-distributed weight :)  He's 2 yrs 7 months and weighs 31 lbs even, so I think you're right on target.  They move so much at this age I'm betting its fine to lose a little too.
