Postpardum D & C anyone?

Since I a FTM, I am wondering if anyone else has had this situation. For the last week, I have had intermittent gushes of blood that soak through a pad (once soaked through my sheets also and mattress pad). Luckily DH is still home with me and LO until 10/1. I gave birth 8/15. Obviously, I called doctor and she said that if it didn't repeatedly soak through a pad more than once and stopped on its own, not to worry about going to ER. So they had me get an ultrasound today, and she gave me two choices: take a pill that will make me cramp for four days or get a D & C and know that they got the placenta tissue out and cramp for a day or two but have surgery (have to have someone drive me, take over for me at home while I rest, etc). Anyway, has anyone had this experience and made a choice either way? What was your experience?

  • At this late date, the d&c might be the better option to make sure everything is completely gone and no more risk of infection. But second discussing both option with your Dr!

  • I've had a d&c for a uterine polyp. You will be a little sore for a couple days, but it wasn't that bad. My mom came and helped me out that first day. I actually went walking around lowes that afternoon after the surgery. It just took me a little longer to get around.

  • I also had a d&c following a miscarriage and would echo that while it was emotionally difficult, the procedure was minor and (for me) virtually painless with minimal recovery.
  • I also had a D&C for a MMC, and found it (physically) to be virtually pain-free. There were some period-like cramps right after, but the pain-killer they put in my IV in recovery was the only pain management I needed. In fact, after napping in the afternoon, I went out that same night.
