Sleeping issues

Hi everyone
New to posting, I'm 8w and having a lot of trouble sleeping. I can barely stay awake past 9, but then I'm awake at midnight and the rest of the night on and off.
Anyone else having this problem? I'm exhausted! Any suggestions on sleeping better?

Re: Sleeping issues

  • I'm in the same boat. Nothing works so far. Sorry, lady

  • The only thing that sometimes works for me is reading. It occasionally makes me drowsy enough to go back to sleep.

  • I'm with you! I've been going to bed around 8:30-9, exhausted, and I wake up almost every hour and sometimes in full sweat mode... I have no advice, but hopefully we will get some better sleep soon.

  • I've had insomnia prior to pregnancy and took myself off my medication knowing that I was going to get pregnant, so now I take unisom as needed. I took a couple days of the full 25 mg but noticed it made me way to drowsy so I cut it in half last night and it was better. Unisom helps with nausea too! If ok with your doc u should try it. There are 2 unisom's one is doxylamine and the other is just generic Benedryl. I know Benedryl makes me too sedated so I used the unisom made with doxylamine. Both are pregnancy category B which means safe to use in pregnancy. But ask your doc. Hope this helps
  • I'm glad to hear I'm not alone. Hopefully we can all get some sleep soon!
  • You're def not alone. I didn't let myself take a nap with my son today (like I have been lately) to see if it helps me to stay asleep longer. I take 12.5mg of unisom every night and still struggle with insomnia.

  • If your doctor okays Unison, definitely give it a try. I still wake up a time or two to pee during the night, but I've been going to bed when my husband does (before 9, since he has to be up for work at 4) and barely able to crawl out of bed at 7:30. I'd probably sleep the day away if I could.
  • I was having this problem too and would br awake until 3 or 4 in the morning. Tylenol PM was recommended for me. I would ask first tho. I only take it when I feel I desperately need it.
  • The one thing I've found that helps me is a little bit of vapor rub on my chest. Don't know why it works but, it might be worth a try before taking any pills.
  • I am right there with you. My most likely unhelpful advice, sleep when you can. I go to bed super early now, sleep for a few, get up, do some laundry, and whenever I'm tired and have 20mins or longer that I can sleep, I will. After dinner before I leave for work for about 30 mins helps get me thru the night at work.... Sorry I can't be of more help.
  • Wish I had some advice. I'm so tired during the day, but I find myself waking up at night & having trouble getting back to sleep. (Like I've been trying to do for the past hour & a half - I'm about ready to throw in the towel & just get up at thus point).
It feels like a vicious cycle. :(
I have an appointment with my RE in the morning - I think I'll ask about some of the meds suggested in this thread (Tylenol pm, unisom, Benadryl).

  • Same problem!
In fact I find myself being the most active on the board between 2-4am when insomnia is at it's peak. I miss all the funny stuff at prime tmi time unfortunately- that is when I try to get a few zzz's in. I so miss my regular sleep hours and routines.

  • Once I've had about ten wees I finally can fall asleep, but I take magnesium every night to help, good thing is you can take as much as you want without over dosing
  • I also struggle sleeping. Up at 1 or 2 and then can't fall back asleep. I have been trying many tactics that do not require medicine, but nothing works great. I try deep breathing and focusing on my breath, recounting my day backwards in great detail, visioning myself relaxing on the beach. One of them eventually works, but it is a frustrating process.
  • I was going to ask a similar question this morning... To the ladies taking Unisom (or the rx version), do you take it every night? I have for about 3 weeks now (with b6 for nausea)... last night i skipped it and was up half the night. Insomnia and stomach ache. Im concerned im to dependent on the meds. But cant handle another night of torture. Going to talk to my doc next week, but wondering what others are doing?
I take it every night (1/2 tab) and have for the past 1.5 weeks (I'm 8 weeks today).  You shouldn't become dependent on it.  I'd guess you just aren't out of the time frame for poor sleeping.  I'd probably take 1 night each week without taking it until there is a night where you sleep fine.  With my last pregnancy I probably took it for 5 weeks total.
  • Same problem here! My dr. recommended benadryl, clears up my congestion and helped me sleep.
