5 month not sleeping

My once great sleeper is now an awful sleeper.. He was sleeping 7pm-3:30am bottle then right back to the crib till 6am ish.. Now he's up at least 3-4 times a night, he's been doing this for 2 weeks now.. Me and my husband are exhausted.. I read that he's in his 5 mental leap but this can't last 2 weeks can it?!! Help

Re: 5 month not sleeping

  • My baby was sleeping 8-11 hours over night. This stopped at 3 1/2 months, now at 5 1/2 she is still up every 2 hours all night. The last 3 nights we have not had more than 45 consecutive minutes of sleep. I'm considering selling her into child slavery. Very sorry I know this wasn't the least bit useful, just sympathize with you!

  • I was going to post the same thing. LO has been up all night the last 4 nights. I didn't think she'd be this cranky so early in the leap, so I thought she might be teething. Perhaps it is the leap causing her to not nap or sleep at night. Prior to this, she was an amazing sleeper. Well, except for during the 4 mo wakeful... Between her, my teething and screaming 20 m/o, and my needy 3 y/o, I feel like I'm losing my sanity.

  • Here too :(

I'm too tired to type anything more eloquent.
  • I pretty much gave up on sleep and have accepted that this is how it's going to be until he figures it out. Some nights he sleeps awesome and some nights it's downright terrible.
  • It's moments like these that make me glad my child never slept good. I'm so used to her sleeping like shit that being up every 90 minutes the past three nights doesn't even phase me.
  • Yup, me too. I've downloaded four books on infant sleep (ha!), but I'm too tired to make sense of any of them!

Yeah, when I first saw this I thought it said 'five months of not sleeping' and I was all *me toooooo!*. But then I realized, there has been sleep, just not lately.

  • We're here too. My DS was sleeping good until about a month ago. Now he's waking up every 1.5-3 hours depending. He seems like he is in some kind if pain, but it's only in the MOTN and gas drops don't phase him. I think I'm going to call his pedi today to see if maybe he's developed reflux. He does nap during the day, but only in his swing.

    Teething, maybe?

I don't think so. He is bringing his knees to his chest, which is why I thought gas. However, I did call his pedi and the nurse thinks it could be reflux. DS's doc wasn't in today, so the nurse left him a message and told me to call back tomorrow. She also told me to completely change my diet and have him sleep on an incline. This to shall pass, but I'd like it to be sooner rather than later;)

We are dealing with something similar though he does it until he poops, which has been greenish for about 4 days. Though he seems fine when he poops during the day... No pain or discomfort. Prior to this he hadn't pooped overnight in a month. I feel like he's a newborn again! Doc thinks he may have a virus.

LO was sleeping 8am-8pm, which was awesome sauce. He hit 5 months old and has been waking up a ton. He also started chewing (not sucking) on everything. I think he is teething or he was just spoiling me with the amazing sleep before!

Edit: Because I'm the worst speller ever.

  • I totally sympathize with you!  Mine has been a bad sleeper for a few months now and I've started to just accept it as the way it is until he figures things out.  I'm tired of searching for reasons. I'm just tired.

  • Yep, in the same boat. Never thought I'd bed share but that's what we are doing and it means I'm able to function the next day since I'm usually only half awake when I'm nursing him in bed.

    This.
  • My DS will be 5 months on the 24th. He is on the 15th feeding TODAY! Less then 2 hours before feedings. He went to bed at 8 was up at 9 and now at 10:35. I. Can't. Do. This. He went from a bed at 7 up at 4 then 7:30 to this stranger baby. I really don't remember my DD doing this. It sucks
  • I'm so tired. I thought the 7oz(!) of formula and 2 tsp of squats would have held her over tonight!

  • I feel like I'm slowly dying from exhaustion. I don't know how I manage to get it together enough to function at work everyday. Get it together LO momma is so so tired.
  • When this crap started back in July I remember telling DH that if it didn't let up soon he was going to have to help so I could get a few hours of consecutive sleep or I would lose my mind. Fast forward two months and he still hasn't helped a single night. I know it will pass eventually but I keep thinking I can't do many more months of this....
