stretch mark prevention creams?

Hey all. I thought since we are all starting to get little bumps talking about stretch mark creams would be a good idea. I'm a STM but can't remember what I used last time. I was lucky enough to avoid stretch marks on my tummy but got them all over my butt/hips! Hoping some of you have some good suggestions...
I am really hoping this isn't a repeat post... I'm mobile and can not figure out how to search. I usually check the forums daily and I don't remember seeing anything...

  • Thanks so much!! I kept looking at the top of the page!!
  • The consensus seems to be that stretch marks are mostly (if not all) down to genetics. In terms of keeping moisturized/lessening the itch factor, I've heard cocoa butter or Palmer's Stretch Mark lotion are good to have on hand. Nothing topical will prevent them entirely because they occur at such a deep layer of your skin.

  • Mama mio oil. I get it from Amazon. I've heard great things about it.

  • Extra Virgin coconut oil (food grade for cooking). You can't prevent them but keeping your skin moisturized can help.

  • Genetics plays the biggest role. I was taught in NP school that trofolastin cream might help more than placebo lotion, but a tube is $45 on Amazon. Not worth it IMO.
  • My entire family sweats by Palmer's cocoa butter.

  • You can't prevent
stretch marks hun, it will happen no matter how much money you spend.

    Yep. This.
  • It is genetic and it runs in my family, but vitamin e lotion has helped prevent and diminish the appearance of stretch marks for me. I use Suave Vitamin E and it works great and is inexpensive.
  • Bio oil its perfcet you use it twice daily
  • Definitely all comes down to genetics unfortunately, but I still use bio oil or vitamin e capsules to stay moisturized. For some reason the smell of cocoa butter makes me gag...
  • Yeah... at one point I was given steroids as part of a treatment, along with chemo. The steroids made me eat like pig, and swell up real quick. My face was so round it looked like a balloon. The dr told me to use stretch mark cream, I tried a bunch of different ones but none of them prevented or helped all the marks on my stomach.
Also scar creams don't work either. After my knee replacement I tried multiple scar creams as well, they didn't do shit. Still have the ugliest scar in the world! Sorry :(
I'm down to just crossing all my fingers and toes I don't get even more stretch marks haha.

  • Vitamin E oil mixed with Vitamin E Cream. Used it last pregnancy and didn't get any stretch marks so hopefully I won't with this one either
  • You can use creams to help with the itchy belly but stretch marks either happen or they don't. Creams used in previous pregnancies that resulted in no stretch marks don't mean correlation= causation. I'll probably buy some cocoa butter just to keep my belly moisturized. It's already getting itchy.
  • What everyone else said. My good friend paid out the wazoo for expensive lotions, mederma, you name it. She used them religiously and unfortunately has very bad stretch marks. Those who swear by lotions and never got stretch marks wouldn't have gotten them regardless. Sorry there's no better news

  • I have a family history of awful stretch marks!!! But I use this Arbonne firmness cream, it is amazing at preventing stretch marks and after the birth it pulls your skin back to it's original firmness! I love it my boobs have grown two sizes and still no stretch marks for me :) you should try it.
