Help! Poop residue on diapers?

I have 1 diaper that looks like there's poop residue on it. It's been through the wash a few times and still hasn't come clean. I'm not really sure what to do. Since this is the only diaper like this I'm thinking it might be buildup from diaper cream. I use Grandma El's but DC seems to put it on pretty thick.

My wash routine is cold rinse, hot wash with 2 scoops of Charlies, extra cold rinse - I wash EOD.  The last few washes I've done a full warm wash cycle at the beginning (no detergent), my normal hot wash, and an extra hot wash (no detergent) at the end but that hasn't helped either. I have some Tide I could try on the next wash if y'all think that would do the trick.

  • Since it's just 1diaper, I'd try handwashing/spot washing it before adding it back in with the rest of the diaper laundry.

  • @theultimatesak -  It's not chunks but it's more than just a stain. It's like lots of fine particles on the diaper.

  • And I tried hand washing it last night and it still didn't come out. I don't know what has happened to this diaper.

  • Can you get the particles to loosen if you scrub it with an old toothbrush (and maybe a few drops of your favorite dish soap)? After that if it's still discoloured you could try sunning it with a little lemon juice.
  • If it doesn't stink, it could just be a stain. Is it on fleece? I have one pocket with kind of pilly fleece, and the poo stain looks like tiny little brown dots on the surface of the fleece. It's been there for two years.

We also have staining from diaper cream (Magic Stick) but that looks more gray and isn't speckled.

It doesn't stink. But yes, it's like tiny brown dots on the microfleece. I thought that was more than just a stain. I'll throw it back in the wash and try sunning it.

  • And it's not mold?

  • @mandmeesh - I'm pretty sure it's not mold.  It's brown, wouldn't mold be black? How long would they have to sit to get mold? I usually rinse the poop at the end of the day.

  • I do think mold is black. Just throwing that possibility out there :)

  • I have one style of diaper that just really gets stained by poop - they're my Kawaii GNHW.  I've sunned them, bleached them (not for the stain, but they were bleached multiple times incidentally during a battle with yeast), scrubbed with dish soap, and the stain has not budged.  I think it's just the material - micro fleece?  That's the only unique thing about them.  They look terrible, but they still work!
