I would really like to register at BBB & Amazon.. however, my cousin warned against Amazon bc she said nobody bought off of her online registry (they all bought in BRU store). I don't know if I should "risk" it, but their prices are great. In your experience.. let me know what you would recommend please! TIA! That said.. I know it's not a big deal & ppl will buy what they want to buy. I am grateful for anything I receive. It's just w/ having twins, I'd like to have my very close family/friends encourage other family/friends to actually use the registry bc I need all the help I can get lol.

  • I clicked the wrong clicky. I said I wouldn't recommend it, but I absolutely would. Even if nobody buys from your online registry, you still get the completion discount.

  • @catladyTX and to clarify I'm registering there regardless lol it's just if my sister should put it in the invite..or if I should just do BBB & BRU and be done w/ it.  That's really what I'm debating. I just hate knowing there are cheaper options out there for myself and my family included!

  • I've never registered at an online store but BRU lady approached me today and said they're doing a10% cash back deal on their registries. So after $300 worth of stuff is bought off the registry you start getting 10% back on every purchase that is mailed to your home after the due date. I thought it was cool and might be with looking into for FTMs who need more than $300 worth of stuff.

  • what @CatLadyTx said.   Though I am also one of those people that would rather buy stuff online.  If you are the type of person to stalk your registry, you could add things to both and then if someone buys the item from BRU take it off Amazon, or vice verse.

  • I say it depends on your friends and family. I have a lot of older people (family and friends of my parents) that would never order anything online. But if it's alot more people your own age then maybe it wouldn't be that way. I say it can't hurt to put them all on the registry. People may buy something on the amazon registry from a store. You never know.

  • It depends on your family. If a lot of your family/friends shop online then it is great, but if no one does than I wouldn't. Most people like going to the store and seeing what they are buying. Also, people also tend to shop the day of the shower. If someone wants to really get you something, I'm sure they know how to price check/shop around for the best deal.
  • I will definitely do both.  FTM, so I realize you might not want my input.  Haha.  But between the cheaper prices and the fact that BRU is pretty inconvenient for a lot of my friends, I don't see much of a down side to at least putting it out there.

  • I had an online registry (diapers.com) and BBB. BBB was definitely more popular and the returns online can be a bit of a pain. It may have been because diapers.com is less recognizable than Amazon (even though their shipping is way faster!). Even though I shop on Amazon regularly, for showers, I tend to be a last minute shopper and go in store.

If you do both, you could put things that are big price differences on the Amazon one, but have most of the registry on BBB.

  • I buy online for all registries. Why am I going to search in the store for the specific item when they will just ship it to me from the comfort of my home?

  • I registered at BRU and on Amazon and we got plenty of stuff from both.  If you have crossover items, Amazon has an option that you can mark something as purchased elsewhere.  There have been times where I've found an item cheaper somewhere other than Amazon and just marked it as purchased.

(Side note - it drives me crazy that not all registries have that option!  Sometimes I'll buy something at Kohls that's on a BRU registry and I have to jump through all sorts of hoops to get it marked as purchased!)

Anyway, I'd say as long as you have plenty of options on both registries, you'll be fine!

  • I've never done it at an online store, but if you get a discount on what you buy off your list after the shower, I would do it. I didn't even have a shower with dd3 and I still registered at Target to get the discount (plus they sent a $25 gift card at that time for registering, a special they were running I think). When we find out if we are having a girl or boy, I may do a registry with them again (for the completion discount). If we have a boy, I'll need to go shopping. We have everything for a girl already since we have 3.

  • I registered on amazon for our wedding and I had mixed opinions about it. It was very convienient for some, but many others stick to macys. We got all the big ticket items we asked for from amazon. I think it probably depends on your friends and family. Be careful of the shipping as well - I only chose items with free shipping because I didn't want anyone to have to pay to ship.
  • I also vote to go ahead and register online as well, and put it on the invitation. Especially if you have tech savvy people invited to the shower. I know my grandmother wouldn't be comfortable buying off Amazon, but my MIL and friends would have no problem with it.

  • After a lot of feedback from asking about BRU vs. Amazon, I decided to use Amazon for our big ticket items since they were online only through BRU anyway. I put stuff like bottles, clothes, my pump etc. on the BRU one so they were easier. The big tickets being on Amazon are a lot cheaper and I don't see them going anywhere any time soon, whereas BRU cycles stuff in and out so fast IMO. My shower isn't until mid-January and I registered about a week ago so I know something is bound to be discontinued before people start buying. When I registered with my son, I noticed most of the stuff we registered for was discontinued by the time we had our shower just 2 months later and I wish I had known about Amazon then. It's gonna be hard not getting the Buyer's Protection for the big items, if anyone buys them (like you said, very grateful for whatever we get), but that way we're not out a ton of money if we end up buying them ourselves and we still get a completion discount.

  • I have more than one registry mostly to find cheaper things elsewhere for people. To make it easier and have them all in one place I used myregistry.com so I could link all my registries in one spot and not one registry gets overlooked.
That's a really good idea! I had no idea that even existed! Can pre-existing registries be added to it or do you have to do it from scratch through their site? I think that would make it a lot easier since DH's family will be doing everything online.

  • I registered at BRU and Amazon the first time around, and the BRU registry was much more popular. I tended to look for the seller that sold the item I wanted the cheapest and put the item on the corresponding registry. After my shower, I took back some things that I didn't ask for and didn't want and used my completion coupons to buy the stuff I needed from both BRU and Amazon. It worked fine for me.
  • Amazon actually has an option where you can say you bought the item somewhere else and still take it off the Amazon registry. I'm not sure if people will use it or not, but I thought that was kind of neat last time.
