In our case, the go-to reason is "I want to snuggle with Daddy!" And of course this melts his heart and he gives in. Then they both fall asleep on the couch and I have to be the mean one that ruins the moment! Haha!

@stgeist‌ turning down I need a snuggle/hug/kiss is nearly impossible. We both generally give in on that one. But it only happens once (each) per night.

@AmberLiz I would put 'I heard the baby, she needs me' under 'heard a sound'

Is it because you have baby duty at bedtime? That's the current split at our house because baby nurses at bedtime, and DD1 is a little angry at me about it/clingy with daddy because of it.

We got 5 of those last night alone! (Unfortunately I still didn't score bingo). Doesn't surprise me that he had trouble going to sleep. This was right at bedtime last night.

@ksulli I think it is because I ALWAYS did bedtime before the baby came. I don't think DH EVER put her to bed before that. But I can't complain too much because she is still quite a mommy's girl the rest of the day

We had a request for Pooh Bear the other night. There has never been a night (probably not an hour) ever in the history of my toddler that pooh bear has been out of sight. Our conversation via the monitor:
DD: mommy! I need pooh bear!
Me: he's in your bed.
DD: I can't reach him!
Me: you can move to get him.
DD: but I can't... Because... I'm sleeping.
Me: if you're sleeping, just sleep.

Also, I'd like to apologize to any non-toddler moms reading this. We say sleep will improve, and it will. But bedtime may not get easier for years.

I think bed time gets harder, but it pays off because toddlers sleep longer and harder than babies.

My toddler doesn't make excuses to get out of bed yet. I can just imagine when it does start! Right now if we don't put him to bed by nine he normally takes himself to bed.

Well... My 3 year old only sleeps from 8pm-5am, and wakes fit almost any sound. My almost 5 month ild sleeps 12 hours straight without fail, and even a screaming 3 year old who wet the bed next door to her doesn't usually wake her

DD (2.5) is still in a crib (but if anyone asks, it's a "little bed"), but she knows we can hear her on the monitor and will regularly call for any and all of these things to "MOMMY ON DAH MON-Y-TERH." My recent favorite is asking her a zillion times if she needs to go potty again before we take off her undies and put on her nighttime diaper / PJs and she emphatically says NO NO NO. And then two minutes later tells us she needs to pee.

So far tonight, we have heard...

"I need Silky!" (His security blanket)

"I have to go potty" twice

"I'm thirsty"

"My foot hurts" (This was a new one)

"I'm hot with these jammies on"

It has been 45 minutes and he's not asleep yet.
