STMs-crib mattress question

Well be putting dd in the crib soon (sleeping in the pack n play currently) and using DS old crib and mattress. Wondering since the mattress isn't as firm as it once was (DS slept on it for the last 2 years) if we should get a new one or just use it?

Re: STMs-crib mattress question

  • We are reusing DD's mattress (she slept on it for 16 months) and DD is currently using my nephew's mattress that he slept on for 2 years. I don't want to spend money on a new mattress.

  • We're reusing my son's mattress too, one she starts being in the crib for any length of time

  • I would get a new one.

  • I have read that you are supposed to get a new mattress.

But, we didn't.  It's the same one that my older son used for 2 years.

I'm not buying a new mattress.  I'm not at all concerned about re-using the mattress.  It's not like he's sleeping on something incredibly smooshy, it's still firm.

This. DD1 seriously weighed like 27lbs at her heaviest in the crib. I'm not buying a brand new mattress, it still seems as firm to me as when we bought it.

  • We've used the same mattress for all three kids. My oldest is almost 6. It is a "plastic" covered one, if that makes any difference.

  • I'm on my third kid and still using the same mattress.  Seems silly to me to buy a new one, although I know this is certainly a topic of some debate.

  • Thanks ladies! This is the shit that runs through my mind at 3 in the morning with no sleep. I am fine with keeping the older matress and just wasn't sure if there was a general rule of thumb with it!
