Hand, Foot, Mouth Disease

SO DH got a sore throat last week and by Friday was broke out on his face, hands and feet. I of course did my research and quarantined him to stay away from LO and myself. I have been on 100% baby duty while DH blisters away. Anyone else deal with this. I am so freaking scared of catching this and washing mine and LO's hands all the time, cleaned the sheets, sanitized the house. Anyone else (STM's) deal with this. He is miserable.

He is also scheduled to see if he can get a cream to at least help with the pain today.

That might have been me @torilea. It roughly went like this in our house:

Wednesday: Kid starts feeling crappy - low fever (99.5-100), general restlessness. I think he was simultaneously dealing with a cold too because I caught that.

Saturday: we notice little bumps on his feet and legs

Monday: the daycare director tells us, yes, it's HFM. They had an outbreak

Also called the pedi's office that day. They told us don't bother to bring him in unless he has a high fever. It's viral so there isn't anything they can do for it anyway. They also said that he's no longer contagious (well, highly contagious) 24 hours after the fever goes away.

Tuesday: The fever breaks, the blisters start scabbing over, and he's good again soon after.

It's super easy to catch; both DH and I did (though he got it worse). The hand and foot blistering isn't typically painful for babies though the mouth ones can be. J seemed to prefer his bottles slightly cool rather than body temp for a few days but he never was too fussy about eating. There was a lot of comfort nursing going on.

I'm so sorry.

My 2 year old got it a few months ago. She only had bumps in her throat and on her bottom.

5 days later, she was feeling better but LO got it. He had bumps in his mouth, had a hard time eating, and then got bumps all over his body.

5 days later, he was feeling better, but then I got it. It was awful... I had a much higher fever than either kid (mine as 103 with regular Tylenol/Advil), I had blisters on my hands and feet, and they hurt a lot. I'm actually still dealing with it... a few of my fingernails are falling off, and I've been told that's what happens when adults get a bad version of it. It's awful.

We ended up going to the emergency clinic with Charlie because his temp was pretty high, and besides Advil/Tylenol, they said we could mix some Maalox and Benadryl and try to swab it onto the sores in his mouth. That was pretty much impossible, so I would just squirt a little into his mouth and he would naturally swish it around and then spit most of it out. They said it was okay if he swallowed a little bit though. So if LO does get it, you might try that. Hope y'all stay healthy though!

N had this a month or two ago. Cleared quickly, but we were told to be extra diligent about washing hands, baths, etc since apparently it can still be found in poos for a while even after the child is feeling better... gross.

LO and I both had it in July. I had it the same time I had strep and an upper respiratory infection. Completely sucked.

@katykatykaty‌ - I didn't know about the nails. Maybe that's why some of mine look so weird. I had thought it was bc of other issues I had shortly after getting over it. Hmmm.
