Henna belly tattoo?

Anyone doing this? And if so, how many weeks will you be when you do it? My friend is a talented artist and asked me if she can do this on my belly and I'm pretty excited about it! Just not sure when to do it. Thinking maybe 32 weeks.

  • I've never heard of it either.  I try not to show off my bare belly too much because it's super hairy lolol

  • I've never done Henna but it'd be cool for your maternity pics if you are planning on doing some :) I think henna is absolutely beautiful

    Yes, this. Precisely!
  • Wait....who is growing hair on their belly? Does this come later? I'm 25 weeks.

I can see the shock on your face! It made me laugh as I read this.

Yes, and I quickly ran to google images to increase the panic! Lol
  • No thank you.  My faint linea nigra is enough decoration for my belly.
Married on October 20, 2012.  Began trying in January 2013.
RE appointment & testing December 2013 - February 2014= Unexplained IF, possible endometriosis
IUI#1- March 22 (100mg clomid, 75 mg of Bravelle, Ovidrel trigger) = BFP!!!

  • I think belly art (when done well) is beautiful. Just don't wait too long, I think 32-34 weeks is good.

  • I'm not doing it, but I'm in a belly dance troupe so I've seen this a lot, both for performances and the purpose of a pregnancy blessing. I agree 32-34 weeks would be good.
  • I think it would be wonderful for some photos! I myself wish there was someone around to do it for me.. doesnt look like i will. Totally go for it!! Post pics when you get it!
  • Henna makes me nervous. I know a girl that had a reaction where it looks like the henna burned into her skin and she has scars from it. I would definitely use caution.

  • Nope.  Glad you have a friend that can do that for you... however even if I knew about it I probably wouldn't spend the money.

  • I'm not doing belly art, but I do need to re-henna my hair. So maybe I can call it scalp art. :)

  • I have seen this and it can look pretty cool. I'm way too self-conscious of my bump to do it but if it makes you happy, totally go for it. And take pictures!

  • I've had the hairy belly issue since first tri. I started shaving it when I went to a bachelorette party that stopped at the beach.. Now I just do it periodically. DH thinks the stubble is funny. However, I'm thinking now that I can channel my belly hair shaving into artistic expression... Can I get a picture of a bunny painted on my big belly (with henna or temporary tattoo) and then shave everywhere but the bunny?? It'd be like one of those books where babies can pet the furry animals.

@nauticallife - shave it beforehand... because nothing's more attractive than a patchy, razor-burned, henna-tatted preggo belly
@AnonnAni‌ see we all have patchy hair issues lol

  • I have henna on my belly right now! In my culture, henna helps ward off the evil eye; I had it on my hands and feet when I got married and had a friend do a design on my belly with DD#1 and again now.

I have ridiculous stretch marks that I'm self conscious about so there aren't pictures of it or anything, but my friend who did it loves to and even though I'm not really superstitious, I'm a little superstitious and every little bit helps. :)
  • I did my hair last night, and I have a little splotch of orange on my belly from where the henna dropped and I didn't wipe it off in time to not leave a stain. :)
