Brazilian blowout

So I've been holding on to this groupon for a Brazilian blowout for months because I'm scared my hair (what's left of it) will fall out! My hair is still falling out like crazy so I'm also kind of embarrassed to go to the salon. Anyone know if it's ok to have it done? My groupon expires in a week.

Re: Brazilian blowout

  • I have no idea if it's safe or not, but depending on the scope of your hair loss you may not be happy with the results.  The BB is best on thick, coarse hair. I have thick hair, but it's still fine so I always felt like the BB gave me super shiny flat hair.  If you feel like your hair feels thin, I think the BB could definitely accentuate that.

I know the coupon was part of your motivation for getting one, however I thought I'd mention I'm a huge fan of standard glosses and they are much cheaper.

  • I would consider waiting, maybe the salon will honor your groupon if you discuss? I had this done years ago and agree with pp that it's best for thick coarse hair. To me, it wasn't worth it bc after the blow out I still had to flatten my hair it just took less time and it annoyed me the first few days not being able to put my hair behind my ears or in a pony tail. Lastly, unless you're going to a Eco friendly place the chemicals they use to do a blow out are pretty harsh and if your hair is already falling out might do more harm than good. Can't hurt to call and ask!
  • The ingredients are less toxic, and safer for your hair. It'll cause little if any damage. @knotty-girl‌ said it best. It depends entirely on what texture your hair is to begin with. It will flatten out fine hair, it won't completely straighten very thick, course hair either. It's ideal for something in between. If you like the results of a good blowout and flat iron, then you'll be pleased with the Brazilian blowout. Otherwise a colorless gloss is a great way to add shine and smoothness and the chemicals are very gentle.

I agree. The majority of businesses on Groupon aren't using Groupon to make money. They use Groupon to market their name and accrue repeat customers. They will probably work with you if you just call the salon and explain.

  • IMO Brazilian Blowouts are not safe. There is a huge difference between a trace amount of a chemical touching your skin and breathing a heavy dose of said chemical for 2 hours.
  • I made the mistake of getting mine at about 9 weeks post partum since I wasn't breastfeeding.  Then my hair started falling out in clumbs, and I was left with TONS of little frizzy pieces on top as my hair grows back in.  I've gotten 4 in the past pre-pregnancy, but I was not happy with the results of the most recent one.  I think a lot of the results had to do with hormones and how much my hair was changing.  I would wait.  I plan on getting another one done next month now that my hair is done falling out, and starting to grow back in.

**My hair is naturally curly, and not too thick.  I have mixed ethnic hair, and it normally works AMAZING on mine.  Out of the shower and blow dried straight in about 15 minutes, and my hair is about mid back length.

  • I'll wait! My hair is still falling out so I'll just have to deal with the frizz. I've had 2 in the past and they were awesome. My hair is pretty curly and both times I ended up with very loose waves and it was super easy to straighten.
