Anyone else having a hard time focusing at work?

I keep finding myself zoning out and thinking about all the things I need to accomplish before may 2015 not to mention that I've been terrified that something's going to go wrong with my pregnancy. I feel like of I breath a certain way I'm going to cause damage. All of this is making it really hard to get any work done (which I should be doing right now, ha!). It doesn't help that I won't get to see the doc for another few weeks. Does anyone find themselves completely wrapped up in their crazy thoughts since finding out?

  • Yes I am also distracted at work.  I have a ton to do this week.   Plus being exhausted and nauseous doesn't help.  I want to go lie in bed.

  • I'm a SAHM, but I still find it hard to concentrate on playing or my homework. It sucks.

  • Glad to know I'm not the only one! Whenever my boss makes comments about me leaving my desk a lot (peeing a million times a day) or anything I want to snap back and say I'm pregnant cut me a break! I don't think that would be such a great idea right now though haha!

  • YES!  mainly because I'm exhausted.  Doesn't really work to zone out as a teacher.  I've told two people.  I work in a very small school. I told our lead teacher if I seem more spacey or forgetful, or lazy that is why.  :)
  • Yes! Especially towards the end of the day it is really hard to get things done. I am soo tired in the evening, my house chores are really falling behind :/
  • I am more just counting down the hours.minutes.seconds until I can leave to go home. Being so tired and sick is wearing me pretty thin this time.

  • The tiredness is making it very hard to concentrate.... And yes I am spending way too much time on TB or FB.  I am also self employed so the less work I do, the less I get paid

  • No more time draining and distracting than TB was when we were TTC.
  • I've been so tired and sick. Feeling miserable and thinking about baby all the time to cheer myself has made me a mess at work. So far I've been covering myself with "oh not feeling that well, must be a little bug," but I'm going to be traveling a lot and working very long hours for the next month or so and I'm just not sure how I'm going to manage.

  • Ugh, YES! Totally and completely distracted. I'm a lost cause right now. I'll spend like 50 minutes doing personal stuff (bumping, FB, etc.) and 10 minutes working. Ayy yiii yiii!

    image
  • Same way, sounds like we are all a hot mess at work!! Maybe the bump app should come with alerts that tell us to go back to work between the hours of 9 and 5? Haha
  • Same here....I did ok Friday but not so good today so far ....there is always tomorrow. It is easy to get carried away thinking and planning about baby.

  • Yes, I am having the hardest time concentrating at work. I don't feel sick (I've been very lucky so far), but my thoughts just keep turning to my pregnancy! It's my first time going through this and I had a little bit of a scare last week (a little spotting), so I keep worrying about miscarriage. I'll feel better when I enter my second trimester next month and the risk significantly goes down.

So, to answer your question, you're definitely not alone!

Pretty much this! I have such a stressful job, which takes a lot of concentration and I keep wondering off. I really cannot get fired and not that I would but I keep thinking, is it like this the whole pregnancy?? And I'm not even sick yet, just tired and excited and nervous. Throw in morning sickness, man I don't know how I am going to cope for the next 7-8 months!!!

  • Hahaha @Jazzyashes84‌ I'm a CPA and I'm essentially useless right now wrapping up some audits and charging some clients that I probably shouldn't be charging for all my time. I was going to start a thread for those that will be in their third trimester during tax season! I still might.

Funny story.  I'm a CPA and was working on audits during my first pregnancy.  I was USELESS until morning sickness passed.  The next year I was helping to do the budgets and realized that I caused us to go $20-30,000 overbudget on the client I worked on.  Oops!  The firm had to just write it off.  I felt so bad!!!  (To be fair, I was a first year).

  • I'm definitely having problems concentrating. I didn't think it would be a problem because this is my second pregnancy, so I don't have as many questions as I did the last time.

My problem now is I have very strong feeling I'm having twins. My first u/s appointment isn't until 10/8, so I have a while to wait. I keep looking up possible signs of having twins (although I know there isn't a sure fire sign in any pregnancy), how to care for twins, etc.

I'd be terrified if I was having twins because I think I'd have to quit work to care for them, so it's not like I'm "wishing" for twins...I just have this feeling, and it won't go away. Sigh.

  • Work is so hard! I worked up until 35 weeks with my last pregnancy and it was a tough time the entire time! As a nurse you are trying to take care of everyone else and don't have the time to pee or even eat sometimes which makes for a terribly angry pregnant woman! I am so tired and cranky when I walk into work I am already setting myself up for failure. I'm trying to pack small snacks to put in my work bag and keep water handy and push through I would like to work until the day of my c section if everything goes well! ( I had severe swelling, and gestational diabetes and hypertension last pregnancy) and that was only last feb , I had my son feb 2014
  • I work and am in school so I have to stay focused or I get behind REALLY fast. That said, staying focused right now is taking an iron will especially with so much about this pregnancy being up in the air. :-/

I would love if you started a tax season thread :) I did it last time! Worked all the way up until April 15th and had my son April 29th. I can relate to the person that said they are afraid they are having twins and then wonder if they will have to quit their job, lol, that would be insane.

  • I am struggling! I am prescribed medication for depression and ADD. I have been off of it since I found out I was pregnant. My mind does not stop. I teach school and every little pencil that drops or kid that talks puts me on edge. I easily lose focus. I am so exhausted, I can't multiple-taskl- So I sleep instead. Which causes me to feel like I'm drowning. I also work a second job, so things can tend to become a little overwhelming for me.
  • Glad I'm not the only one. I have been so tired and just slightly nauseated most days, sometimes I just close my eyes for a few minutes and hope nobody peeks their head into my office!

I'm very nervous about having to go off my depression/anxiety meds. I have been on them for years and whenever I miss a dose, I have really bad withdrawal symptoms. I know once I'm off them it's only going to make my work issue worse!

  • @Jazzyashes84‌ I totally hear you. I cannot believe you worked through April 15th! I know that I'll have to if I can and I will be a miserable whale!
  • So how do you all deal with the exhaustion and wondering mind? I'm also SUPER emotional and am wondering if I should find a part time job (I just started this new one a month ago and am going to have to change positions anyways). I don't feel like I can be very helpful-especially because I'll start training all over.

    Advice?
  • Yesssss!!!! I do alright in the morning but I have been feeling really nauseous in the afternoons so I use that as an excuse to not get anything done. I have even shut my office door twice this week and taken a nap.
  • Yes!!!! I can't focus and I have no desire to work anymore because I am so excited I am pregnant, and that is really bad because I am the office manager!!! :)
