Re: WFD/Meal Plans for the week

  • This is the first week in a while that I have been too exhausted to care (normally I have a big elaborate plan for every day of the week because I love to cook)...So we did Let's Dish. (If you are not familiar with it, check out their website letsdish.com)

It's only available in certain areas, but there are similar programs out there (so I have heard), and its the GREATEST thing ever. We've been going for about 3 years. They are healthy meals, and so yummy. Even if you don't go, you can get meal inspiration from their website.

  • @belmont1785 I've heard of these places. They look so great. Nothing anywhere local though :(

I just made 14 freezer meals for after the baby is born. It took 3 hours! Pretty sure I won't be cooking again for a long time. Take out for me.

This is awesome. Can you share some of the recipes or where you found them?
  • Considering that I am pretty sure the cold my husband had has decided to visit me I am leaving it up in the air. If I end up feeling like cooking I'll be making do with meat and veggies from the freezer and dry goods from the pantry.

  • @kyliedaniellexx‌ - I'm making beef stew tomorrow too :)

Also picked up a spaghetti squash so planning to make up some tomato sauce this week. Wishing I felt like making proper meatballs, but that just takes too much time and energy!

  • Tonight we are having a Cornish hen with potatos, and a veggie. Eggplant Parm, pasta with pesto, a soup of some sort and breakfast for dinner are on our menu for the week
  • Plan for the week:
Yesterday we slow cooked a big hunk of beef
Sat: pot roast meat with gravy and potatoes, salad and bread
    Sun: veggie pizza on naan
    Mon: shredded beef tacos
Tues: turkey burgers w/side salad or coleslaw
Wed: veggie spaghetti with side salad and garlic bread
Thurs: bbq shredded beef sandwiches with coleslaw and homemade fries
    Fri: taco salad

We try and do a week's worth of food when we go to the grocery store. Everything organic and fairly healthy and we make our week's allowance less than $100. It's so rare that we actually follow through with a full week of food. Normally we're scavenging or eating breakfast for dinner by Thurs. I'm pretty proud of this week's food.

Next week we will switch to crock pot chicken and do a similar meal plan. We normally go back and forth week to week because it's just easier that way. DH hates fish so I only get it when we go out or when I make tuna salad sandwiches for lunch :P

I know this is weird, but if I could make money off of it I would love to be a professional meal planner. I know how to make absolutely delish and quick meals off of one main protein and it's so fun!

Mmm I've got chili in the crockpot right now which should last a couple days.  Also planning a roast with veggies, and breakfast for dinner later in the week.

ETA: apple pie a la mode for dessert!
  • We are making a super low carb pizza tonight that my mom found the recipe for.  I could eat the whole 9x13 pan and stay within my carbs so I'm hoping just part of it will be filling since I have to share with my husband! :P

  • Chicken and dumplings tonight. Not sure what the rest of the week will be. I'm too tired to pre plan this week.

  • It's gotten a lot cooler here so I'm breaking out a lot of my fall/winter staples rather than making my summer favourites.

Sunday: Spicy sausage and tomato soup with chickpeas, crusty bread and old cheddar on the side

Monday: DH cooks- special eggs and bacon

    Tuesday: Spaghetti

Wednesday: Beef with snow peas (Pioneer Woman recipe)

Thursday: DH is working overnight- I'll scrounge for myself

Friday: chicken rogan josh, roasted curried cauliflower and pappadums

I love cooking in the cooler weather, I feel like I can turn my oven on again!
  • This weekend was a bit of a mess, so I grabbed what I could from the grocery store:

    Monday:  baked cavatappi and salad

    Tuesday:  leftovers from Monday

Wednesday:  Veggie sandwiches on whole wheat bagels and oven fries

    Thursday:  Same as Wednesday

Friday:  Homemade cheese pizza and salad

I'll deal with next weekend when it comes round again.
  • Made my meal plan and grocery list last night.  Will go shopping after work today.

    Monday: Shrimp Stir-Fry

    Tuesday: Turkey Noodle Soup

    Wednesday: Crockpot Cream Cheese Chicken

    Thursday: Leftover Chicken

    Friday: Tuna Melts and Broccoli

Saturday: French Toast for breakfast, baby shower for lunch (it isn't a full meal - just hors d'oeuvres and cake), out to dinner with family from out of town (using the shower as an excuse to visit)

Sunday - steak and potatoes on the grill.  Will probably throw in some sort of veggie.

  • I'm in awe of everyone that plans so well! I'm making Chicken Salsa Verde tonight and I'm ridiculously excited for it. I couldn't make it for the longest time because I couldn't find a medium/mild salsa verde. But I finally found one this weekend - YAY!

Here's a pic and a link to the recipe if anyone is interested:

  • I'm impressed by everyone's meals, particularly those with a budget to accompany since I can't seem to spend under $50 at the grocery store even if I'm just getting milk =)

Tonight: hubby is traveling so probably lean cuisine pasta

Tuesday: burgers, grilled onions and grilled asparagus (don't go together but we have asparagus we need to eat)

Wednesday: pumpkin ravioli in a cream sauce, with crusty bread and cannolis (have extra ricotta from lasagna we made Saturday)

Thursday: ham and mac and cheese (homemade!)

    Friday: Likely going out

Saturday: We're going apple picking so maybe pork chops with a cinnamon rub and an apple sauce on top

  • @uncharted01- that looks really good! I need new recipes- definitely going to try this next time my hubs come home!

  • Great job ladies!  I haven't thought much about dinner this week, but we have a couple of leftovers in the fridge, so:

Tonight:  Leftover soup, bread and salad

Tuesday:  Something my MIL made, it was gravy-ish with peas, carrots and corn over biscuits.  No one seemed to know what it was called.

And that's all I've got.  I did go grocery shopping yesterday, so we should have plenty of food this week, just can't think of what I feel like cooking/eating.

  • Last night we had a sweet onion and gruyere quiche with a salad (romaine, green onion, celery, apple, pecan and homemade poppyseed dressing.)

Tonight and the nights to come?  NO CLUE.
