I had a Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (85% of my stomach removed, but all other GI tract left in tact - this is different from a rou-en-Y gastric bypass) in March 2014 and got pregnant at 5.5months post op - about a year sooner than I should have per doc's orders. We were TTA and apparently had a birth control failure...anyways, I'm 7w now, I see the bariatric group on Monday, and my OB the 15th for my first u/s and prenatal appointment.
This is my 3rd pregnancy, first 2 were at my highest weight (high risk for me, but healthy babies), I've lost 100 pounds this year so I am at a much healthier weight for pregnancy - BUT the concern is my stomach restriction, inability to eat enough calories to stop the weight loss, and vitamin levels.
Anyone out there going through this too?
Re: Pregnant after Weight Loss Surgery
I would make an appointment with a nutritionist to help make sure you are eating the most calorie dense foods possible and make sure you are on a really good prenatal. (Have your doctor prescribe one)
Good luck.

Yes - my WLS only reduced the size of my stomach...there was no intestinal change. I just got my 6 month post-surgery blood work back and all vitamin levels are within normal range, iron a little low, but not alarming. My current supplement regimen is working well for me now.
so happy!
I also had an u/s yesterday and baby is measuring right on track with a HB of 171.
My OB said that for now, she will treat me as NORMAL...so unless something goes wacky - I am not going to be labeled High Risk!!!!
My BP was 100/62 which explains my lightheadedness. She prescribed some Zofran so I can be sure to eat/drink/vitamin even on my extra yucky days.
I do not have any specific calorie or weight gain/loss guidelines...just to eat when hungry and make thoughtful nutritious choices...I have orders to eat more steak too!
