Solid food.

I was wondering for people who have stared LO on table food. What foods have yall tried. So far we have given DD strawberries, peaches, cheerios, puffs, green beans, watermelon and those nasty yogurt drops.

Re: Solid food.

  • diced steamed veggies such as carrots, peas, potatoes, squash, broccoli, mangoes, bananas, cantaloupe, honeydew, peeled and cut up grapes, kiwi, chicken, beef, pancakes, little pieces of crispy bacon (not a lot, just a few pieces due to salt content), ham, pasta (star shaped pasta is great, but i will also chop up spaghetti), avocado, stewed tomatoes or peeled fresh ones, pieces of softer cheese like fresh mozzarella, cooked beans, lentils, toast pieces with a thin layer of peanut butter on it, and whatever we happen to be eating for dinner. Her favorites are anything tomato based, so spaghetti, lasagna, even chili (I went very very light on the seasonings).

My rule of thumb is if it can be chewed easily, then she can have it. If not, I will use my food mill or food processor. I don't hold back anything unless it is spicy or acidic. We haven't yet given her any seafood, but that's because I hate all things seafood and we never have it in the house. I told my husband its his job to introduce seafood.

  • Oh wow. I thought we were doing good. :-( but my first didn't have table food till almost a year. I was scared he would choke. This gives me confidence on trying more table food.
  • She definitely gags a lot and it scares the crap out of me but she always manages to clear it out on her own., She's never come across something that has caused her to choke except for leaves. Go figure.

If DD were happy with just a few items, she probably wouldn't have tried so many new things, but she gets bored of things very easily and is always trying to hawk my food. Just go at your baby's pace!

Pretty much anything we eat, he eats. Sometimes I might chew it just a bit first and then put it in his mouth.

The only big no nos are what we stay away from peanuts and nuts, honey, things like that.

  • Thanks ladies! We were more adventurous today and tried toast, peas/carrots and spaghetti! She loved it all! Apparently I have underestimated her haha. :D
  • We've had a lot of feeding issues with DD so she has eaten much less than some of the other babies here. She's had sweet potato, squash, white potato, avocado, green beans, broccoli, carrots, oatmeal, rice cereal, bananas, pears, peaches, and maybe one or two others that I can't remember right now. We are taking it slow because that works for us and our situation.
