I don't have an answer to your question, so I'm a jerk for commenting. But! My OB gave me a prescription for them, and I need to go get fitted from a professional who then makes them special for me. Everyone on my mom's side has them so, doing my best to avoid. Maybe your OB can do the same? I imagine the fitting is pretty crucial, all our lovely legs are different.
@jeanzcarol actually any advice is helpful. I feel like an old lady for even having to consider this, but I have heard that the procedure to have them removed is very painful.
@one2andnow3 my mom had the procedure and I think her legs look worse. Granted this was maybe 15 years ago but...They're covered in scars. She was in bed for weeks and in a lot of pain. In terms of avoiding them, the hose are the go to option but I've also read a lot about exercise being beneficial, especially yoga. Anything that gets the blood circulating well. And as with everything pregnancy... you guessed it... Drink more water.
This runs in my family too. My mom has a cluster named after each one of us! Doc told me to start off just trying the ones you can get at a nurse's/scrub store. I got one pair and they are amazing! About $20. Want to go back and get a bunch more, but I'm going to try to get along with just washing them every night.
I got mine from the Circulatory Center. This is twice that I had both of my legs done in the last 5 yrs with laser then injections and I see I'm getting veins back yesterday.
I was almost in tears. They run in the family and just got ticked because I had work on them done twice and had to fight with insurance last yr. Blahhh. Mine were painful more than actually seeing the bulging veins.
I'm on my legs also all day and once weather gets bit cooler I will start wearing them. Mine go up to my hip lol. Sexy!!
@jeanzcarol my dad had his legs done way back in the day where the procedure was awful too and they looked worse too! Twice! He did go last yr to get them redone and he actually wears shorts now! He was so embarrassed before.

I have compression socks I got at a scrub store awhile ago for work, I know they are more comfortable when you are on your feet all day but I got out of the habit of wearing them, now I have to dig them back out. The ones I have are like nylon material so I wear regular socks over them, the ones that are in colors, are they nylon or heavier sock material?
I second Preggers for maternity compression socks and tights. I've been wearing them from the start of my pregnancy and they are pretty comfortable. They have super cute colours so you can wear them as tights under skirts and dresses etc. You can often find coupon codes online to help with shipping costs. They also have sister companies on their site that sell different types and styles so if the ones found on Preggers aren't your style you might find something else that is.
I wore them while pregnant with DD when flying and will wear them again when I fly in a few weeks. I got the thigh high ones.... I would NOT recommend them. They do make it easier for going to the bathroom than tights but they tend to need frequent adjustment. If I need them more often with this pregnancy I will go with knee highs or tights. You can look online for measurement guides.... usually each brand has instructions.
I wonder if it was a brand issue? The only ones I wore after my hip surgery were thigh highs with open toes. I'm definitely getting more for pregnancy. They were much more comfortable for me than the tights.
TTC since 3/2011 Adenomyosis, LPD, hypothyroidism.
BFP on 7/20/12 after 4 cycles Clomid + IUI
2 large subchorionic hematomas & no heartbeat at 7w6d
D&E 8/18/12 Sonohysterography found septum and necrotic tissue.
@tee18 I wear them almost daily. My legs feel are a lot my tired on the days I don't wear them. They improve your circulation and help prevent your blood from pooling in your legs. I have an office job where I sit a lot, so these help circulation, along with elevating my feet and getting up and moving throughout the day.
Thank you for all the comments. I have a dr appointment this week and plan to purchase after based on this and dr recommendation. Hoping to order amazon to save on cost.
