Just got BFP! Planning on midwife, should I still talk to OB first?

Just got my BFP, 11 DPO! Hubs and I are obviously thrilled!! We plan on having a midwife, so I was wondering if I still need to call an OB first/also? Years ago I didn't have insurance so I started going to Planned Parenthood. I have had insurance for the last 3 years, but I liked the ladies that work there so I continued to use them. As a result I don't have an OB. Basically wondering if I should find an OB or just find a midwife?

    I'm using a midwife too! I called the hospital where I want to deliver and scheduled my first prenatal visit directly with the midwife.

    Thank you so much! I'm pretty sure I'm low risk; I'm 25, I don't smoke, no other health issues. The hospital we're planning to use has a great midwife wing/team, so it's good to know I don't need an OB in addition :)

    And plenty of 25 year olds with no prior issues end up being high risk. For now you aren't, but don't be naive enough to think that you are safe from that happening.

    Smoking does not make someone high risk FFS.


    Well aren't you a ball of sunshine. I'm aware that just because I'm not high risk now doesn't mean my whole pregnancy will be that way, but if I call a doctor and tell them my age and about health history they'll say I'm low risk. Thanks for your non helpful input, though! :) Way to welcome people.

    OP, just an anecdotal warning. When I was pregnant with DD, my blood pressure shot up without warning, and I wound up on bed rest the last 2 months of my pregnancy. Not saying it's going to happen to you, but unexpected problems do pop up. I hope you find a midwife you like, and have an uneventful pregnancy.

    How did me asking a simple question about whether I need both an OB and a midwife turn into me being a 'special snowflake'? (Which, by the way, my question had already been answered before the unnecessary comments were made.) I'm not asking stupid questions/freaking out/worrying over nothing/reasking questions... Just made the comment that I'm relatively young and healthy and somehow that makes me a naive idiot apparently.

    You know nothing about me, my life, or my situation, so I'm not sure why you feel the need to be rude for absolutely no reason. Guess if I want to chat about pregnancy or ask someone pregnancy related questions I won't bother coming back here.

    There are so many bullies on here, if u dont have something of value to add keep it to urself, all of us have different things going on, cant we just support eachother during an exciting but nervous time...

    Being 25 and healthy is highly relevant information in the discussion if working with a midwife. Obviously anybody can become high risk, but most women that match her description will remain low risk. A midwife is a great option!
