April 2014 Moms

MFP

I was using MFP but my supply decreased because I was eating too few calories. I know each person's number is unique based on height, weight, activity level, etc., but if you are using MFP and have been successful losing the baby weight without losing your supply, would you mind sharing with me the number of calories you are eating a day? I want to try MFP again because I'm overrating and gaining weight and it holds me accountable. TIA! :)

Re: MFP

  • I feel like mfp is soooooo stingy with calories. But then I'm a chubby girl so what do I know.

  • I have been using MFP. I'm on the thinner side but just wanted to lose the baby weight, which I've now done twice. I agree that it seems very stingy with calories. I am 5'9 and 145 lbs and it gives me 1550 a day, 2050 with BF.
Has anyone else noticed that with the most recent update, adding BFing as a "food" doesn't work? It doesn't subtract the calories anymore. I have to add BF as a cardio activity for 500 calories.

  • I set mine for highly active (which I'm not at all, other than BF) and to lose 1 lb a week, it added 500 calories to my regular number. I'd rather just have a set number though than have to add it in each day.

  • I think your supposed to eat at least 1800 calories for milk production? I may be wrong and as you said everyone is different.

I still like to use it. I set my lifestyle accurately to not very active and subtract 400 for breastfeeding.

But in the end I try not to worry too much about going over a little. It helps me make better choices. So instead of eating that donut for 400 calories I could eat a few other things. It makes me realize how mant calories are in certain things.

I've slacked off lately and haven't been using it. I've also been eating lots of donuts ...

    .

This is exactly how I think too. :-) although oftentimes, the donut wins! But it definitely makes me think about my weekly Starbucks treat!
