B-12 deficiency anyone?

So I'm addition to all that I have going on I just got a call that I have B-12 deficiency (pernicious anemia) and will be needing weekly injections. Anyone else have experience with this? How long did you need injections for? I'm already on daily lovenox injections, I'll be starting the weekly progesterone shots soon, and I am getting iv therapy at home through a PICC line for hyperemesis. I'm really starting to get depressed that I feel this pregnancy is killing me.

  • Oh my goodness! You must be feeling like a human pincushion! It sucks that you need so much extra support but I'm so thankful, as I'm sure you find yourself, that you have it. That little person you're making is worth it.

I only have experience with the progesterone injections. My first two children are Invitro babies and the progesterone is standard procedure for the first 12 weeks of pregnancy... Along with a slew of other needles. I just say that I completely hear what you're feeling. It's stressful and sad and hard and sucktastic... But don't give up. You will survive this and you'll be a stronger Mom because of it.

    Keep heart.

  • No experience with this. However I am sorry you have to go through all that. I see how that can get depressing. Just try and focus on the positive. I hope you have a good support team at home.

  • I also have a B12 deficiency that requires injections. When I first started them about 6 years ago I had to go every week (only for the first few months), but now I'm only going once a month. Going every week was definitely a huge pain but once a month is manageable for me. As far as I know, I will never be able to stop getting them since I don't absorb B12 from food or supplements. I don't know how it works for everyone but you should talk to your doctor if you're unsure of anything. Good luck!

  • They're not that painful. I used to get them when I was a kid all the time after my hair started falling out. I was stressed out. They helped. I still get them every few months just to boost my immune system. Quick shot in the butt. After going through IVF and injecting my belly hundreds of times, seems like a piece of cake. Good luck!

  • I do my own B12 shots. Pretty easy and really does make me feel better.

  • Thank you all for your responses! My nurse came out yesterday and have it to me and now that I've had my initial one my husband will be giving them to me every week. I feel like he is starting to like poking me with needles now. He gives me my lovenox so when I told him that once a week we will have to give me 2 shots in a day he took it with ease lol. I will be doing my progesterone shots starting next month so I will for sure be feeling like a pincushion as if I don't already.
  • Yikes! I've never been diagnosed with a deficiency but my midwife has me taking a b complex to help with nausea. I got some gummy ones that are delicious! Maybe they could help you?
