If you have diastasis recti from a previous pregnancy, how are you holding up so far? Are you wearing a splint? Are you doing anything to try to manage your separation so it doesn't get wider?
I've noticed it's getting harder to carry DD and I feel a bit of a strain. Before I got KU I had gotten my diastasis down to a little less than 1 finger width and was doing well. I was going to do the Tupler Technique to try to hopefully resolve it but never got around to it. Today I checked my diastasis and it's over 2 finger widths! I'm so not happy. It's more than doubled and we're not even halfway there yet. I guess I'm going to have to start wearing a splint daily, and then I guess therapy exercises. Has anyone done this / or is planning on doing this while pregnant? If so did you do Tupler or a different program? I came across an online program called ReCore but not sure how it compares.
Clarification : If you're like what in the world is she talking about? Many women have diastasis recti as a result of pregnancy and sadly are not diagnosed. People just tell you, oh your body just isn't the same after having a baby. It causes the "mommy pooch" and is also the reason most women will start "showing" early in subsequent pregnancies. The only way I found out was several months after giving birth when I went in to the doctor concerned because my stomach was getting bigger and I wasn't gaining any weight. I can't believe my OB never checked for it at my post-partum appointments.
If you have any doubt as to whether you may have it, I'd highly recommend checking. Just lie on your back with your knees bent (feet flat on the bed/floor). Lift your head and shoulders up, if your stomach looks like a football shape (upside down V) you have diastasis recti.
Re: STM+ with Diastasis Recti - What are you doing to manage?
@wonknessmonster - Thanks for sharing! It seems like a dirty little secret no one tells you about. Yeah, I had a lady at work tell me she was just sure I was 5 or 6 months pregnant. WTF.
You gave an alternative I didn't think about - trying to find a PT nearby. I'll look into that. I haven't been doing any exercises
I'm really feeling stressed to try to contain it as much as possible because with my first pregnancy it was bad and I ended up having a hernia and had to get that repaired in a surgery that was much worse than my C-section.
Good to know. I will look into it further. I teach ballet and still take class myself, so it's not like I'm ignoring them but if there is something that can be done, I want to at least try.
