Someone tell me why....

...in the hell does my baby scream bloody f-ing murder in his car seat???

He can be fed, burped and changed and he will scream before we make it down our 1/2 mile road to the main rd. Singing doesn't help, nor does shushing, not a paci, not silence, not music and not toys. He isn't hurt. It's not to tight or to bright. He won't sleep, he won't relax and he won't be content. My first son went everywhere with me all the time and was fantastic! Lord help me with this needy little boy cause he is going to break me! [-O< :(( 8-}

Edit: wondering if his reflux had anything to do with it? He is on medication for it though...idk

Re: Someone tell me why....

  • Yes. This is my child too. It's crazy because we don't have a life where we can stay home because she doesn't like the car. I have some thoughts that she will eventually get used to it and deal. But I'm not sure when that will happen. If DH and I are together, I sit with her because that calms her.

  • DS1 was like this. I would be so stressed by the time we got anywhere! It did get better eventually.

  • My niece was like this. Turned out she had car sickness. Maybe ask the Pedi about it. I'll ask my sister what they did

  • DD just made me a liar. We just put her in the car for a trip to town. She had just eaten, but that doesn't make a difference normally. We are currently driving peacefully while she sleeps, with me sitting in the front seat like a normal person. Bliss! She will likely make up for this on our trip home.
  • We had some screaming too but started using a white noise machine (that happens to be a fuzzy giraffe) ;;)
  • Some babies just hate carseats.  My daughter went through a long phase where she screamed the whole car ride.  I found one song that calmed her down, and only that one song, so I would sing it on repeat the entire drive.  Eventually she just outgrew it.

  • My DD does this. She's 10 weeks old. I think she gets over heated. Her hands can be cold (because we blast the a/c bc she gets hot) but we get her out of the car seat & her back is HOT. Like, fever hot. Her hair is damp. Her clothes are damp. We have to dress her in a onesie but put a blanket over her that we can take off if we think she's getting too hot. It's SO stressful. We have a Kia Soul so between her & DS we have no room for anyone in the back. Driving to church is a nightmare sometimes. I feel you sister. (hugs)

  • Take the seat to the hospital and have them check her fit. Most hospitals have car seat specialist that will do everything for free. Mine screamed at first turns out I had it set. At the wrong size. After we had it adjusted he's been fine.

  • Yes his back and hair will be damp but I just assumed it was cause he would get so worked up. He is one of those babies that when you hold him he has to be sitting up. You can't hold him laying "like a baby" so maybe the angle is the culprit

    Have you tried getting one of those cooling towels for her? Could probably just cut a strip to put behind her neck or something? I use them to cool off my carseats on really hot days here in the desert.

    The brand I have is frogtogg

    There is also a product that you can get that helps vent air directly to the back seat. I think it's called Noggle.
