DH is thinking I should switch to using a credit card since he thinks they are more secure than debit cards. Any ideas on what the best card would be? Right now I mostly use my debit card for groceries, gas, and Amazon purchases.
Amazon card! 3% back on amazon purchases and 1% back everywhere else. You can redeem right through your amazon account. You can redeem discover card rewards right through amazon, too.
Mama to a little girl born July 2011 and a little boy born April 2014!
I'm a big fan of capital one for miles. We pay for everything with the card and pay off the balance every month. So far we've gone to south Africa, England, and Mexico using our miles. I'm not sure how the other rewards stack up though since we've only used it for miles.
We have the discover and have got decent cash back $. But honestly were curbing our cc usage to stay on budget better. (We always paid it off, but sometimes it was a larger payment then we expected!!)
So yes, cc are enticing for points / cash back. But be weary of the ease of use -- and potential derailment of a good budget / money spending practices.
AmEx Blue Cash Preferred card. 6% back on groceries, 3% on gas and department stores, 1% on everything else. There is an annual fee of $75, but we usually make that back in the first 3 months or so.
We have the discover It card and love it. We get a ton in cash back every year.
We never use debit cards for purchases - only to take money out of the ATM. Credit cards are more secure in the fact that if it gets stolen, you're not losing out on cash in your account and it's usually not a big deal to get the situation fixed.
I have a question for those who use the card for everything and pay the balance each month-- how do you keep from going crazy with the spending? That stuff adds up quick.
We're cheap... and are always pretty aware of our spending? I keep a spreadsheet of all my spending/income.

When i worked we used to make enough it wasn't too big of deal. But now I'm having to keep it for gas only. Cash is the only real way to keep me within budget!
American Express for every thing! You get points for every purchase and they add up quickly. They have a website you can shop off of with points and get actually stuff and GIFT CARDS. In the past I have done a lot of the gift cards near Christmas and use them to buy gifts recently I discovered that I could link it to my amazon account and use the points for any amazon purchase. I also like that you can go on the Amex website and apply the points to your certain purchases to cover part of your bill. I think Amex has a app you can get to keep up with your balance on the go.
Edited to add. With most Amex you HAVE to pay it off every month, no balance carryover, knowing this helps me keep on budget.
Your debit cards are protected in the same way your credit cards are. In addition to the protection your bank covers (Reg E), Visa/MasterCard whatever carrier it is has coverage as well.
If you are really strict with budgeting and can keep track with a credit card, the rewards would be a nice perk...but most people cant. The new studies now say that you will spend 12-18% more using a credit card. We would always lose track and had to go back to using our bank accounts.

Edited to get the name of the card right
Ditto to this, we get $800-$1000 cash back a year on this card

This isn't always possible, I know DHs Amex had some stipulations... But the discover you can pay as often as you want.
