Any other A14 Moms with tendinitis?

I have had this nagging pain in my left wrist and thumb. I woke up Tuesday morning at 5am with a shooting pain from my thumb, to my wrist and up my forearm. It was so painful! I couldn't close my fist and had to have DH drive me to the doctors office. After the doc examined me and ran a few physical tests, she diagnosed me with tendinitis. Apparently it's very common postpartum because our hormones make us susceptible to it. I am stuck wearing an ugly brace and taking 600mg of ibuprofen. The doc also wants me to rest my arm as much as possible for the next 2-3 weeks, which I am finding challenging. Diaper changes and holding little one are extremely challenging lately. I almost dropped little one yesterday because my hand gave out. I hope this heals up soon.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm wondering if it's as common as the doctor said it was.

  • Not me personally, but a co-worker had it after her son was born. I also used to work for a hand surgeon and she told me that this is pretty common. Hopefully it will clear up soon.

  • Yep. Not diagnosed but have had it in my left wrist/thumb since a few weeks out of the hospital. Hurts on and off like a mofo. I thought they might have jacked something up in there with my iv, that's right where it was.
  • I got diagnosed with it in my shoulder when I was 14. Before Eden it was easy to rest it and get it semi normal again but now it's always sore or in pain. It probably doesn't help that it's in the same arm that I hold the baby with. I just kind of deal and chug along. It's been 5 years and medicines do nothing for it anymore so I'm used to it by now.

  • I hear its fairly common for new moms. My SIL is in a brace (her daughter is 18mo). I had repetitive motion strain drom my job before pregnancy and it was horrible carpal tunnel pain during. It is better than before but worst at night. Sorry to hear :( hope the brace helps.

  • I've got it in my left elbow. It started when I was dancing while holding my 33lb 3y/o. Every once in a while, if I've held kids for too much of the day, it flares up.

  • I have something going on in my right arm, I wonder if that's what it is. I thought is was carpal tunnel but it's moved up my arm and today I've had pain in my elbow and some numbness in my arm.
What type of dr would diagnose and treat this?
  • @Icr23 , I just saw my family medicine doctor and she diagnosed it.
  • Yes! I know I'm late to the party on this, but I suspect I have this in both wrists. I was planning on taking a wait and see approach, but it's really starting to bug me.
