H took DS to the ER

DS has asthma and he tends to get sick a lot but the last few months have been brutal.

I woke up to him coughing like crazy at around midnight. Sounded like a croup cough. It was odd though because it came on FAST. He had croup once before and had a cold first and was already coughing. He was completely fine tonight other than maybe a little runny nose and very slight cough (pretty much has been that way on and off for months). Then out of nowhere this croup cough and wheezing. I gave him a breathing treatment on his nebulizer and then tried to just relax with him. I laid on his bedroom floor with pillows and blankets but he just couldn't get comfy. I could still hear rattling and wheezing and couldn't tell if it was just congestion (his nose got super stuffy) moving around or how much of it was in his lungs.

I just really didn't like how fast and hard it came on and I didn't like how he sounded (I'm asthmatic too and I know how uncomfortable it is when you can't breathe). I also heard about this crazy severe respiratory virus hitting kids around the country and I know asthmatics are at higher risk. Maybe paranoia but rather be safe than sorry right?

None of us were sleeping anyway so I had DH take him to the ER and I stayed here with DD since I am already sick myself with a sinus infection and breathing troubles. I figured I would feel better if someone listened to his lungs, maybe a chest X-ray, and if needed they can get a dose of steroids in him instead of waiting til morning.

I'm so worried and I hate not being there with him. This poor kid just keeps catching everything! In the last 6 months he has had 3-4 ear infections (he just got tubes last week), bronchitis 2 times, coxsackie, and peri-orbital cellulitis. He is still on an antibiotic for that one! Which has caused diarrhea and a horrible diaper rash.

Sigh. I know it could be worse. I would just like for this kid to go more than two weeks without an illness/antibiotic.

End vent.

If you read that I will send you booze.
