BumGenius - Will they survive a second baby?

Hi Everyone!  I've been using BumGenius exclusively for the past 2 years.  We are expecting our second baby and I'm trying to decide if I need a new stash or if my current diapers will last another 2-3 years.  Does anyone have experience using BumGenius for multiple babies?  The diapers I have still work perfectly but they are starting to show their age.  Any words of wisdom appreciated, Thanks!!

Re: BumGenius - Will they survive a second baby?

  • I think a lot of people have had luck with that. Personally, my BG 4.0s haven't even lasted through one baby and the elastic is so relaxed my nearly 30lb toddler has leg gaps... of course, if I were handy I would replace the elastics and then I'm sure they would be fine.

  • We aren't there yet. But it seems like the elastic wears out and aplix wears out. Both are fairly easy to replace (no personal experience yet). Some people even snap convert instead of dealing with aplix again.

But if you want to add a few new ones! Go for it! :)

  • If you don't dry them in the dryer on hot, they last longer. Your elastics might need replaced, but I'm told its easy.

  • I'm planning on using all my BG's for a second baby.  But the elastics definitely need to be replaced.

  • It's hit or miss for some reason. I have some in their 3-4 baby. But some wear out super fast.

  • I am about to try mine for a second round also.  I am certain that the velcro ones are shot, but the snap ones I feel pretty confident with.

  • I will be finding out in December!  All the velcro ones were shot before DS was out of them, but the snaps are all in good shape.  The elastic seems ok, but I may be proven otherwise when I try to put them on a scrawny legged infant, I already have the replacments though from when I got the aplix refresher kits from Cottonbabies.

  • I have Freetimes. They didn't fit as early as brand new Freetimes did, but now at 3.5 months and chunky infant, they do. Of course, my toddler is little bitty so they aren't too stretched. I used best bottoms to bridge the gap till the Freetimes fit.

  • I got a full stash of 4.0s secondhand from a friend, have replaced the elastic and they're doing great on my 5 month old twins. I replaced elastic on at least 30 diapers which was a pain but totally worth it!
