Flying with an infant

Ok ladies please refresh my memory. I haven't flown with an infant in 2.5 years and my memory fails me. How do you change an infant on a flight?!? I seem to remember changing DS on my lap for a pee diaper and did some sort of makeshift lap change in the bathroom for a poooy diaper. We are flying Alaska airlines to maui... If that makes any difference.

Re: Flying with an infant

  • I changed G in the bathroom on the fold down changing area on all the flights we went on. It's right above the toilet. I never had any issues. Have fun in Maui!! :)

  • I always change my kids in the plane seat. My kids are terrified of public changing tables. If I took them in that tiny bathroom with them screaming bloody murder the whole plane would think I was killing them.

  • Oh, I'm glad to read this! We are taking the boys on their first trip next month and I was worrying over where to change the inevitable dirty diapers. Phew!! Now, if only I could figure out how I can get drunk enough to deal with my insane plane anxiety, yet still be a functioning parent.

GL and have an awesome trip!

(Obviously I'm joking about the booze...just wishful thinking. Maybe my own screaming will distract the passengers from two thrashing two year olds.)

It's ok with me if you weren't kidding about the drunk part ;)
So sorry you have crazy anxiety.. Props to you for still attempting to travel though. We invited my sister to come with us to maui but because of her anxiety and 10 month old she refused which makes me super sad.
    Where are you headed?

  • I used the stupidly tiny fold down table in the bathroom. One plane was very tiny and had no table, so the FA took pity on me and let me lay A down on a blanket on the galley floor to change her poopy diaper..... While the whole plane watched with my backside facing them......The things you do!

  • Just to add my two cents. DS has taken almost 30 flights in his short life and I try to always change him in the bathroom even though it's tiny and kinda gross. I remember this well-written and very pro-family article written by a former flight attendant who was giving advice to parents flying with young ones. She made a very convincing case for why you shouldn't change your LO in the seat or on the floor- she provided lots reasons around sanitation/health and consideration for fellow passengers and the crew. She also said that dirty diapers should be put into a plastic bag or at least an airsick bag before getting tossed into the bathroom garbage, and "please don't hand your dirty diapers to a flight attendant!"

If I hadn't read that article, or if she hadn't been so pro-family in tone, I would probably just have changed DS anywhere and everywhere, but I always think of it every time I'm tempted to do that.
