Anyone make homemade pizza?

Wanted to make our own pizza for dinner with the kids but not looking to make the dough/crust from scratch. I've heard you can ask for pizza dough from pizza places. Has anyone tried this? What about the premade crusts like Boboli? Has anyone tried it? Any recommendation for both dough and crust?

Re: Anyone make homemade pizza?

  • I use dough from the refrigerated section at Trader Joe's (usually the whole wheat, but I've bought the white if they don't have the wheat), and our grocery store sells pizza dough in the service deli area. Both are very good.

  • Making your own dough is insanely easy. However, any nicer grocery store will have fresh dough in the freezer section,

  • Pioneer Woman! I made it and it turned out pretty good, baked it on a pizza stone.

  • I don't like the trader joes ones much, but they do in a pinch. I make the pioneer woman's recipe, seriously it's ridiculously easy & quick. My sister & dad buy from Italian bakeries; but I don't know if that's a jersey/philly thing of what. Some regular groceries have dough balls. Say no to boboli.
I 3rd PW! I know that sucker by heart...

    That's sad.
  • Even half the walmarts with grocery stores in them have pizza dough.  It's in by the deli and their brand take home and bake pizzas.

or you can buy it from a pizzeria.  Don't both with boboli or pillsbury.

  • Grocery stores sell it - look in the freezer section and near the cheese section. You can also use Rhodes frozen rolls. I use Rhodes rolls to make the kids personal pizzas every so often. Don't buy Biboli!! It is gross!

  • Another quick and dirty route is the jiffy pizza dough mix in a box.  It's ok if you don't have the time or inclination to make it from scratch.

Silly as it sounds that stuff (Jiffy) is REALLY good for pizza dough! It makes a good thin crust. Granted, it's not going to be a crispy crunchy crust, it's still good!  That's probably the only Jiffy product I'd ever purchase though...

That's typically what I use unless I make it from scratch using a Pizza Hut recipe I found from Top Secret Restaurant Recipes.  As others have said - it really is super easy to make from scratch though it's best to make it the night before if you do go the scratch route if you really want to get more of an "authentic" flavor...

  • A fourth for Pioneer Woman! I triple the recipe about once every two months and freeze the dough!

  • We just make Valentino's (<----clicky) recipe, it's simple, quick, and yummy. We have homemade pizza every two weeks or so!
