Flying while pregnant

I fly A LOT for work.  I'm only 8 weeks now but wanted to see when you got uncomfortable and what your doctors have advised.

Re: Flying while pregnant

  • Good question. My hubby bought tickets for us to fly during Thanksgiving. But I don't think I'll want to be flying at 24 weeks. I plan on asking my doc at our next appt.

  • I flew at 18 weeks and was fine. By about 24-25 weeks I would not have wanted to due to comfort.

  • I flew at 19 weeks and that was fine. I did not want to travel much after 22-24 weeks, even by car. I went on a 3.5 hour car trip at 27 weeks and it was pretty uncomfortable. I told DH I wasn't leaving the city again until after the babies were out.

  • My doctor said absolutely no flying by 32 weeks, I personally decided to stop after 24 weeks
  • I had no travel restrictions at all.

  • I took a 22 hour flight at 32 weeks to return back to the US.  No problem at all.  Compression socks work great to stop any swelling and drinking lots of water.  Each person is different, listen to your Dr. and your body.

  • I would ask you doctor.  My doctor hasn't given me any restrictions and I just flew at 13 weeks and I will again at 14 weeks.  I am however worried about flying during the holidays because I will be 29 weeks.   X_X
  • I chose not to fly after 20-24 wks. The concern was not the flight itself but the possibility of being stuck that far away from home for months (there are situations where you can wind up hospitalized until after the birth). If there had been a situation important enough to justify the risk I would have done it- but not for a routine trip or vacation.
  • Thanks, Ladies.
  • If you fly you have to get up and walk a lot. I would have flown until maybe 22 weeks. After that I wouldn't have felt comfortable.

  • I just flew at almost 19w and was completely fine.. I've only gained like 8lbs so far tho, so I'm not that much different than normal yet. That said, I'm done flying but my doctor said not past 32.
