Baking soda bath okay for newborn?

Anders has a bad butt rash. I thought it was yeast, but it isn't. Apparently it's just a newborn rash from pooping constantly for 9 days. I have been putting Grandma El's or babyganics ointment on at every change and he is changed every two hours usually.

It is kind of improving. It's getting more rough, like its scabbing over. Its still angry and red, though.

Can I soak him in a baking soda bath or is that not good for new babies?
