Welp, I have Gestational Diabetes...

So I just got the call from my nurse and they are referring me to a High Risk Dr. And my numbers (which they didn't tell me) were really elevated. To the point I will possibly need insulin.
This is new to me. Last pregnancy I had GD but was able to control it with diet and testing. Does anyone else have any experience or info or even just some reassuring thoughts? I am really nervous about the insulin.

    No experience with gd, but glad you're getting a plan to deal with it-that's good.

    No experience . I'm sorry you are going thru this and wish you good luck. Maybe you will be given a chance to start out with diet.

    Yes, hopefully you can try watching your diet and checking your sugar first. I'm so sorry I would not want to do the shots, not that anyone would. Stay strong momma!! ((Hugs))

    I have no experience but I hope the Dr. you see will have some good advise and maybe he/she won't think you need insulin.

    Awww man!! Really sorry to hear about this! But hopefully it will be easy to manage! Good luck! Both of my parents have type 2 diabetes and even though my levels are usually around 90, for some reason I'm nervous I will have GD too!

    ME: 38, DH: 42, stopped BCPS 1/2013, TTC #1 2/2013, AMH 0.4, started acupuncture: 7/2013,
    BFP: 10/07/2013; MC 10/15/2013 @ 7 wks (natural), focused on health issues for 7 months.
    TTC again: 6/2014, 2nd round Letrozole, BFP 7/7/2014!!! --- EDD 3/18/2015!!!

    I'm a T2 diabetic and I'm only on insulin for the pregnancy. It really isn't bad at all. The needles are no big deal (so thin, barely felt at all) and testing is easy once you get used to it all. Let me know if you have any questions. GL!

    @banana2020‌ I'm also a type 2! There aren't a lot of us on here.

    @mandyreads‌ Check out the first two or three pages of the high risk board for a few threads on GD. Like banana2020 said, the needles really aren't bad. The finger sticks are more painful for me. My only issue is with remembering to take my insulin, and that's just the kind of forgetfulness I have to deal with even when I'm not pregnant!

    Oh no...I hope you don't need the insulin. Pricking my finger makes me nauseous. I'd rather do the PIO shots!! Haha.

    ME:46 MH:44 DE IVF 2014
    Met with RE 4/11. 2 IUI's BFN. DE best option. Switched clinics to do "shared" program. Had to retake all tests and a mamm that put me behind and then on a DE waiting list for 12 months. Picked a donor!! (10/13/13) Got matched. Estimated transfer in December. After 2.5 years of patiently waiting I will finally cycle....can hardly believe it. DE cycle got cancelled. One of her tests came back positive.  Waiting for another donor. Donor picked!! (1/18/14)

    DE IVF #1 (4/26) BFN  DE FET #1 (6/4) BFP! Beta 1=339 Beta 2=852 Beta 3=9957 EDD 2/22/15!!

    Oh no so sorry to read this @mandyreads I also used the high risk board and they were so helpful with snack ideas and tips for managing GD.

    I hope that it works out that you can manage with oral meds.  I do have to agree that the finger pricking was worse than the actual insulin needles I had to use for my Lupron when I did IVF.  GL girl.

    I agree that the finger sticks are a lot worse than the insulin injections. This is my third pg but only the second with GD. DS (age 6) loves to stick my finger and give me the insulin injections. The hardest part for me has been keeping my levels from getting too low. Just remember that it doesn't last forever, hopefully, and that it's just part of doing what is best for LO.
