Diclegis Withdrawal?

Hey y'all. I've been mostly lurking lately bc….well, life. Anyway, I had a question for any moms that took Declegis or unisom and b6 for morning sickness. I'm 15 weeks and tried to stop taking it, but the next day was horrible. Like, I felt like I had food poisoning, body aches, head ache, etc. I'm back on it, and feeling better. I have a call in to my doctor, but I was wondering if any of you had withdrawals? Did you have to wean off of it? Or were you able to just quit cold turkey with no side effects?

Re: Diclegis Withdrawal?

  • I quit unisom cold turkey with no symptoms. I would guess that you're still experiencing m/s?

  • @irishcurls I figured that. Maybe I'm just getting sick. I was feeling so achey, etc. it could just be sickness, but I was suspicious of the timing because I had just gotten off the meds.

Ugh either would be sucky, but if you're feeling better--stay on it for a few more days and try again? I did try to go off a few weeks before I ultimately did and had headaches and an upset stomach (typical m/s for me). But once I went off "for good" it was like every other day of being on it--nothing noticeable. Drink lots of fluids and rest up just in case!!

  • I tried getting of my Diclegis hoping that my morning sickness was better but alas, it wasn't. I didn't have any other side effects though when I wasn't taking it. It may just be you getting sick and if so I hope you feel better soon!

This! Every time I try to see if I no longer need my Zofran, its killing me to have to pay $120 a month for 18 pills because Medicaid will only pay for 6, I take my my last one and then see how I feel a day or two later, which is always worse. I vomit every hour, can't eat anything, I'm cranky because I don't feel well, and I'm angry because I am still dealing with the MS. I have a feeling this is going to be my life until I'm at least 6 months along, if not for the whole pregnancy.

  • @StephanieLBerg‌ My midwife said Zofran can have a two day bounce back effect if you take it every day. For two days after you go off of it, you will feel like shit and then you'll be fine. She told me this before I went on it so I only took it a few times sporadically.

As for Diclegis, I've been taking it for the past 12 weeks. I take two at night, none during the day. I didn't take it one night last week, on accident, and the next day I threw up and felt nauseous all day. I think I still have MS because my midwife didn't mention the "bounce back nausea" for Diclegis. So I refilled my Rx and I'm just going to keep taking it.

  • Thanks for the feedback everyone! My OB called and said I probably still have ms and (unfortunately) I'm probably getting a cold. I'm back on diclegis and feeling less nausea, but have scratchy throat, headache, etc. looks like a cold, which I'm actually thankful for! Now I know I can just stop taking the meds when ms is gone :) I'm off to see if I can take zicam while prego/with my meds. Yay!

  • My Diclegis was making me sicker than my MS was and the first few days I quit taking it were terrible! I'm finally starting to get my energy back, too, since I'm not getting extra groggy from the pills. I got my sea bands in today and the past 6 hours I've felt the best I have since day 1. I'll be 17+0 tomorrow.

  • I'm 16 wks and in D I will not skip a day ever again I had all the crappyness come back. Your ok taking it don't torture yourself. Speak with your doc.
  • I asked my Dr about this too because whenever I tried to stop taking it I would be so sick the next day. She said just keep taking it because its so safe theres no reason not too. I havent taken it for the past 3 days and im 19w4d and no throwing up so I must be getting past it.

Are they not giving you the generic brand??? Has your doctor diagnosed you with anything? Are you having any complications (weight loss, dehydration, etc.) from the nausea? That is a ridiculous amount. I'm not on Medicaid but my generic Zofran is $3.62 for 30. I'd try calling your medicaid provider and asking what you need to submit when doing a reimbursement claim. MS/HG is real and they are required to cover medication for diagnosed conditions.

I don't know if Medicaid is different, but my insurance company (Aetna) also tried to limit me to 12 zofran a month (which was ridiculous since I really needed it every day!)  I went round and round with them, but ultimately they agreed to give me a full month's Rx if they received a pre-certification from my doctor indicating that I needed more.  She ended up prescribing me 8 mg per day (even though I generally can get by on 4 mg) so that I would have enough each month.

Any chance your doctor can do the same so you can get authorization for more?  I'm so sorry - MS really sucks :(
